David Horr and Sylvia Johnson were married August 20, 1955, in Evergreen Methodist Church, Long Island, Maine, by Rev. Norman Catir. They are celebrating 50 years of marriage this year. David is a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1954. He retired from the State of Missouri. Sylvia is a retired housekeeper. David and Sylvia have been members of the West Division Street Baptist Church for 22 1/2 years. The couple has five children, David of Hays, Kan.; Timothy of Lodi, Calif.; Daniel of Springfield; James of Ozark; and Rebecca of Springfield; 11 grandchildren, Daniel, Haley, Zachary and Tiffani of Springfield; Christopher, Eric and Kevin of Ozark; and Matthew, Amanda, Alicia and Joshua of Hays, Kan.
Obituary:
David Arthur Horr, age 82, of Springfield, MO, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011 in his home with his family around him.
He was born December 18, 1928, in Portland, Maine, to Joseph and Evelyn Horr. He was a member of the West Division Street Baptist Church where he played the piano for many years. He served in the U.S. United States Army and Navy, playing in the U.S. Navy Band. David also attended New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. David retired from the State of Missouri in 1992 after 13 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Evelyn Horr; and one brother, Kenneth Horr. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Sylvia Horr of Springfield, MO; five children, David Arthur Johnson and wife Brandie of Hays KS, Timothy Scott Horr of Lodi CA., Daniel Horr and wife Carolyn of Springfield, James Horr of Springfield, Rebecca Tobin of Springfield; eleven grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Peterson of Westbrook Maine; and one neice Martha DeCesere of St. Jospeh Maine.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m, Tuesday, January 18, 2011, in West Division Street Baptist Church. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2011 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Division Street Baptist Church. Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO.
