Family Means Everything to Verna Moore
Eighty-five-year-old Verna Moore of Moncton chalks her longevity up to a good attitude toward life - and faith in God.
"I've attended the Wesleyan Church for 66 years and I volunteered for a lot of things there. I was treasurer of Sunday school, treasurer of the church and treasurer of the Academy (all for many years)," she says. "I actually worked in the office there (secretary for Pastor Buckingham) for ten years."
Verna is the eldest of 11 children born to William and Arletta (Walton) Hoar on a farm in Hebron, Albert County. (Her brother Gerald passed away at the age of five.) There were plenty of chores to be done such as picking berries, helping make hay, weeding gardens, and picking potato bugs (every so many bugs earned them a penny) off potato plants. She also worked in the house and helped care for her siblings.
