A. (Spurling) Hoar, 83, of Salem, wife of the late Leonard Hoar, died August 15, 2008, at her home.
She was born in Saugus, where she spent her summers, the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Blair) Spurling. During the school year, she lived in Salem and graduated from Salem High School in the Class of 1943. Mrs. Hoar then became employed by the General Electric Co. in Lynn until the end of World War II and she and her husband married.
They began their family, and then in her late 40s, Mrs. Hoar taught roller skating in Ames Hall at the Salem YMCA. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with her family to Walt Disney World and Walt Disneyland. For many years, Mrs. Hoar and her family would also spend the summers at a summer camp built by her father in Center Ossipee, N.H.
Mrs. Hoar is survived by three children, Leslie Holler and her husband, Harry Holler, of Newark, Ohio, Cynthia "Cindy" Preczewski and her husband, retired Salem Fire Department Inspector Frank Preczewski, of Salem and J. David Hoar and his wife, Cindy Hoar, of Windham, Maine; five grandchildren, Kim and her husband, Jason Meilleur, Ryan Preczewski, Adam and his wife, Rachel Holler, Erin and her husband, Mark Pennington, and Eric Holler; one great-grandchild, Johnathan Pennington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Charlie Spurling, and two sisters, Gladys Rossi and Elizabeth Eckhart.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, August 19, at 11 a.m. in Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St), Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday, August 18, 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
