Carol A. Pagliaccio, a devoted mother and the wife of former East Aurora Mayor John Pagliaccio, died peacefully May 13, 2008. She was 73.
Born Carol A. Friend in Buffalo on July 31, 1934, to the late Bessie (Hoar) and Ernest Friend, she was a lifelong resident of the Village of East Aurora. She graduated from East Aurora High School and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She also was active in many other community groups, including scouting.
A stay-at-home mom, Mrs. Pagliaccio took great pleasure in attending to detail in running her home, and providing warmth, guidance, encouragement and humor to her children. She believed in the spirit of community, where living in a true neighborhood means everyone is the keeper of everyone else's children. She was also known as a fabulous cook, and was a master knitter.
"She cooked, she cleaned, she ironed, she kept a beautiful home," said her son-in-law, Michael Dillon, in her eulogy. "That may sound like drudgery. But it wasn't, to Carol. It was how she expressed her love and pride, and demonstrated her excellence."
Mrs. Pagliaccio is survived by her husband, John V. Pagliaccio of East Aurora; her three children, Michael (Ruth) Pagliaccio, James (Deanna) Pagliaccio, and Gina (Michael) Dillon; her brother, Donald (Sue) Friend, of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Jason, Janessa, Sarah, Katherine, Nora and Vincent; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Dominic.
A memorial service was held at the First Presbyterian Church of East Aurora on Sat., May 17. Private interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in East Aurora. Memorial donations may be made to the S.P.C.A. of Erie County, 205 Ensminger Road, Tonawanda, NY 14150.
