Veteran Lawyer:
Ralph A. Horr, Ex-Member Of Congress, Dies Ralph Ashley Horr, 78, veteran Seattle lawyer and former Congressman, died yesterday in Veterans Hospital after a long illness. For many years a colorful and vital figure in legal and political circles here, Mr. Horr had lived in Seattle since 1907. He practiced law until illness forced his retirement in 1957. A longtime Republican leader, he represented Washington's First District in the United States Congress from 1931 to 1933. Mr. Horr was born in Saybrook, Illinois. He attended the University of Illinois in 1911. He was graduate manager of the UW from 1913 to 1914 and in this capacity took the first Washington varsity crew to the Poughkeepsie Regatta in 1913 and the UW baseball team to Japan in 1914.
HE BEGAN the practice of law here in 1914. Mr. Horr served numerous terms as chairman of the King County Republican Central Committee, beginning in 1914 and extending into the late 1930s. He was a former president of the King County Young Men's Republican Club. Mr. Horr was an unsuccessful canidate for mayor of Seattle in 1918 and again 30 years later in 1948. He also failed in a try for the U. S. Senate in 1934. He was a first lieutenant in the Army during World War I. He was a memeber of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity; Phi Delta Phi, law honorary; the University of Illinois and University of Washington Alumni associations, the Sons of the American Revolution; the American Legion; Elks Lodge 92 and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He was an hororary citizen of Boys Town, Neb. Survivors: His wife, Lenora M., 5127 Bangor St.; a daugter, Mrs. Lezern Ivers, Seattle; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche McClure, Tacoma, and Mrs. Bertha Fawver Santa Ana, Calif.; a brother, Roy Horr, Seattle, and three grandchildren. Services: 10 a. m. Saturday, Ploeger Mortuary; cremation.
