Obituary:
Warren L. H. Harr, 85, died at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his family, on May 22, 2009.
He was born in Queens, N.Y., on July 16, 1923. He and his wife had been residents of Williamsburg since 1972.
A decorated veteran, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in three wars: World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. An aircraft maintenance specialist, he had a distinguished career that saw him advance from crew chief to key leadership positions at squadron, wing, and headquarters levels. In 1974, he retired from the Air Force with the rank of chief master sergeant, the top 1% of the enlisted corps.
He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, numerous Air Medals, Air Force Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, several Good Conduct medals, American Campaign Medal, European Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Mr. Harr is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carol Harr; his two sons: Gregory Harr of Oregon and Jeffery Harr and his wife, Amy, of New York; his daughter, Kim Magary, and her husband, Bryan Magary, of Virginia Beach; and his three grandchildren: Michael Outlaw, Emily Magary, and Megan Magary.
The family has asked that memorial donations be made in his name to the American Red Cross or the United Services Organization.
