      John M. Hoar Sr. Worked for the state Liquor Commission
      BOSCAWEN - John M. Hoar Sr. died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen.
      He was born July 10, 1921, in Akron, Ohio, to Leonora and John M. Hoar.
      John attended Oberlin College and graduated from Fenn College in Ohio. John served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 in India, Burma and China. He lived and worked as a photographer in New Mexico before moving to Concord in 1956. He retired after 25 years of service as assistant director of the New Hampshire Liquor Commission.
      John was a 50-year member of the First Congregational Church, UCC, in Concord and served the church faithfully in many capacities. John was also an active member of and chaired numerous committees, including the New Hampshire Association for the Elderly, receiving the prestigious Joseph D. Vaughan Award in 1999 and the Concord Family YMCA Active Older Adults Award in 1998. He also served on the Greater Concord Interfaith Council of Churches, Council on Aging, American Legion, Citizens Action and Alliance for Retired Americans, and he was elected to the Concord City Council.
      A dedicated Democrat, he waged political battles tirelessly with great, good humor.
      He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Kent.
      He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Ann L. Hoar; two sons, David H. Hoar of Loudon and John M. Hoar Jr. of Eliot, Maine; a daughter, Susan J. Lessard of Concord; two stepdaughters, Tracy Mousseau of Newburyport, Mass., and Amber Bergmann of Windham; a stepson, Joel Mousseau of Barnstead; five grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Edie Kent and family of New Mexico.
      A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 177 N. Main St., Concord.
      A reception will follow in the Guild room.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church in Concord; or the Concord Family YMCA, 15 N. State St., Concord 03301.
