  When the U. S. 1830 census of Fall River, Bristol County, MA, Edward's family was 1 male 16-26, 2 females under 10, and 1 female 16-26. One person was engaged in manufacture (blacksmithing). On April 25, 1832, the Plymouth County Probate Court judged Edward Durfee, of Middleboro, Plymouth County, MA, to be insane. His next of kin was his son Edward. He owned a blacksmith shop in Middleboro, Plymouth County, MA, and Job Hoar was named as guardian. Plymouth County Probate Record 6909. He apparently recovered or at least improved for a time as he was listed with his family in 1840 and 1850. When the U. S. 1840 census of Fall River, Bristol County, MA, was taken Edward B. Durfee's family was 1 male under 5, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 40-50, 2 females 5-10, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30, and 1 female 40-50. Living very near was Israel C. Durfee. When the U. S. 1860 census of Providence, Providence County, RI, was taken Edward B. Durfee 52 (should be 62), occupation unknown, born RI, was an inmate at the Butler Asylum for the insane. Edward B.
