HOAR, Harold L., Sr.
Harold L. Hoar, Sr., 80, of Bolton, beloved husband of Isabel L. (Hughes) Hoar, died Wednesday (November 8, 2000), at his home after a long illness. Born in Quincy, MA, July 24, 1920, son of the late Harry L. and Rosine J. (Guerin) Hoar, he had lived in Waterbury and East Hartford, before moving to Bolton in 1939. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Harold owned and operated a successful family business for over 30 years, Harold & Sons Rubbish Company, which served the Bolton community and was a source of pride for him and his whole family. Prior to operating his own business, he had worked at the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Co. in East Hartford from 1938 to 1948, and after retiring from his business, worked at Metronics, Inc. of Dalton from 1984 to 1994. Harold was a member for over 30 years of American Legion Post #102 of Manchester, and was also a longtime member of the Bolton United Methodist Church. Harold had a deep faith in God, a patriotic devotion to his country and a strong belief that honesty and integrity were one of the most important aspects of life. The tremendous love and respect that Harold showed to all people included not only his family, but stretched to everyone who knew him. His warm smile, sunny disposition and warmth will be missed but not forgotten. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Andrew Hoar, Harry Hoar II, and Harold L. Hoar, Jr., all of Bolton; two brothers, Willis Hoar of Tolleson, AR, and Warren Hoar of Willington; two sisters, Marie Kowalski of Glastonbury, and Charlotte Swanson of Interlaken, NY; seven grandchildren; a great grandchild, with another expected in December; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hoar was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Hoar. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 10, 1 p.m., at the Bolton United Methodist Church, 1041 Boston Turnpike, Rte. 44, Bolton. Burial will follow in the Quarryville Cemetery, Bolton. Friends may call at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester, TODAY, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bolton United Methodist Church Memorial Fund; or to the American Legion Post #102, 20 American Legion Dr., Manchester, CT 06040.
