2) Ruth Fisk of Scituate, MA, m. 21 Sept. 1786, b. 9 Oct 1752,
d. 1 Apr 1789.
3) widow Esther Greene, of Leicester, MA, dau. of Jonathan
Newhall, m. 7 Mar 1790, b. 7 Aug 1742.
Stephen moved to Cheshire or Adams, MA; his family was born in Cheshire, MA; he served in the Revolutionary War as a soldier; he was in the battle near Bennington, VT., Aug. 16, 1777; he served as deacon in the Elder Warden's (Werden) church; he gave public exhortations.

"This monument is erected in memory of Stephen Carpenter, who
died Feb. 5th, 1815, in ye 75th year of his age. He was ordained
Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Cheshire, July 1st 1783, and
continued to fill the office with honor to himself and to the Christian
religion.
