William J. Hoar, a retired employee of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Western New York, died Tuesday (Nov. 2, 1999) in Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Lackawanna, after a long battle with cancer. The South Buffalo resident was 75.
He was a 1942 graduate of Canisius High School, where he was a member of the DUCES Club for honor students.
During World War II, he served in the Army in the China-Burma- India campaign.
After the war, he enrolled in Canisius College and graduated in 1950.
Hoar went to work for Blue Cross in 1951 and held various positions in its financial management department. He retired in 1986.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Jean Marie Geary; two daughters, Maureen Merlette of Hamburg and Patricia Murphy; four sons, William Jr., Timothy, Brian and Kevin; and 15 grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 2315 Seneca St.
