Obituary:
John Edward "Jack" Horr
John Edward "Jack" Horr age 85 passed away at his home Saturday morning on April 24, 2004. He was born in Clarksburg, WV on May 19, 1918, a son of the late John Herbert and Ruth (Bayne) Horr.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Evelyn "Peg" Watkins Horr, whom he married on October 25, 1941, a son; John Stephen Horr and his wife, Kaye, a beloved grandson; Brian all of New Windsor, Maryland, a sister; Betty Helmick, Fairmont, WV, three nephews; Rick Pekar, Charles Town, WV, Tom Pekar, Barboursville, WV and David Pekar, Charleston, WV and a niece Becky McLay, Orlando, Fla.
He as preceded in death by a son, William Brook Horr, in June of 1989.
"Jack" was a graduate of Washington, Irving High in 1937. After graduation he joined his father in the operation of John Horr Dry Cleaning Company. His father died in 1949, he and his sister, Betty, continued the business until 1963 when it was dissolved. Immediately afterward he was employed at Sears in the Middletown Mall in Fairmont and the Clarksburg store. He retired in 1983.
Mr. Horr was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He served in the army during World War II from 1941 to 1943. He took pride in his vegetable garden which he loved to share his produce with neighbors and friends. "Jack" looked forward to trips to The Meadows in Washington, PA to watch the horse races. He was an ardent fan of all sports, particularly baseball.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street, Clarksburg, WV from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday where a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, 2004 with the Rev. Etheldean Yanero presiding. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
