Merrill, 86, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan. He was born April 29, 1926, in The Forks to George and Nera (York) Merrill. Berwyn's parents both passed away when he was young and he was raised by his sister Glenice. Berwyn graduated from Burleigh High School in West Forks. He served with the Army during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Berwyn was a lifelong resident of The Forks-Caratunk area. He worked as a highway foreman for the Maine Department of Transportation, retiring in 1987. Berwyn and his wife, Pauline, both loved time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They also thoroughly enjoyed camping in the woods, fishing and hunting, spending every available moment in the woods and on the ponds of central Maine. Berwyn was a member of Keystone Masonic Lodge 80 and Stanley Beane Post 99, American Legion. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline E. Merrill; brothers and sisters Malcom Merrill, Marion (Merrill) Morris, Cecelia (Merrill) Morris, Florice (Merrill) Beane, Keith Merrill, Glenice S. Merrill and Garth W. Merrill. He is survived by his children, Paula Foster and her husband, Lee, of Moscow, Gary Merrill and his wife, Kay, of Waldoboro, and Julie Atwood and her husband, Lester III, of Caratunk; grandchildren Krissy, Eddie, Ricky, Andey, Gary, Heather, Jacob and Samantha; great-grandchildren Joe, Kevin, Justin, Alicia, Hali, Anna, Maya, Elenoar and Evangeline; and many nieces and nephews. O'Brien 1935 - 2010 SPRINGFIELD Ann M. (Hoar) O'Brien, 74, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 15, 2010 in Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born in Springfield, daughter of the late Ignatius and Margaret (O'Brien) Hoar, she was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She was a 1952 graduate of the former Sacred Heart High School and a 1954 graduate of the former Bay Path Junior College. Ann was a retired secretary for the former Monsanto Company and had been a poll worker for the City of Springfield for thirty years. She was also a communicant of Holy Name Church. Ann enjoyed gardening and watching her grandchildren at their various sporting events. She leaves her husband of nearly fifty-two years, Stephen D. O'Brien, Jr., two sons and their wives, Stephen D. O'Brien, III and Joan O'Brien of Westfield, Robert J. and Lori O'Brien of Springfield, her daughter and her husband, Leslie-Ann and James Roux of East Longmeadow, a sister and her husband, Clare and J. Stanley Cummings of Longmeadow, seven grandchildren, Ryan, Brendan, Stephen, Michael, John and Meghan O'Brien and Emily Roux, her sisters-in-law, Lucy (Brunelle) Hoar of Lakeland, FL, Joan O'Brien, Clare O'Brien both of Springfield, Patricia O'Connor of Palm Bay, FL, a brother-in-law and his wife, Brian T. and Candyce O'Brien of Springfield and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Robert Hoar, two brothers-in-law, Kevin P. O'Brien, John P. O'Brien, and a sister-in-law, Doreen (Winters) Hoar who died April 13, 2010. The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:30am from the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street, with a Mass in Holy Name Church at 9:30. The burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
