He was born on April 9, 1934 in New Auburn, WI to Glenn and Mary (McCarty) Hoard. He grew up in and attended school in New Auburn. In 1955 Gary joined the Navy and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, eventually retiring from the Navy in 1974. On December 21, 1958 he was united in marriage to Jean Grace McClain in Dillon, S.C. and to this union five children were born. Serving in the military, the family made their home in many different states. After retirement, Gary lived in several places and finally returned to make his home in Clear Lake. He loved hunting and fishing, playing cards and bingo and shaking dice with his buddies at Lake Magnor. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; sons, Glennie and David, daughter, Sherry and brothers, Bradley and Bobby. He is survived by two sons, Gary Jr. and Terry (Carolyn); a sister, Margret Olson; grandchildren, Tanya, Nikki, Jonathan, Tiffany, Tabitha, Angel, Katrina, Jessica and Jesse; great grandchildren, Andrew, Teauna, Gracie, Chloe, Kamryn, Joshua, Tyler, Kaylee and Estella. He is also survived by nephews, Terry, Dennis and Kirby and nieces, Bonnie and Jody as well as other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A burial with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Amery Cemetery. Born September 7, 1928, in New Auburn, Wisconsin, the son of Glen and Mary (McCarty) Hoard, he was united in marriage to Doris Watson on January 29, 1949, in DeKalb. They have made their home in Malta for 63 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many, both young and old, but, most especially, he lived for and loved his grandchildren. Bradley was a veteran of the US Navy. He was employed at Wurlitzer in DeKalb, and then at Northern Illinois University as an electrician and retired from NIU after 26 years. Brad was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. On Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at the age of 86, Hollis died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Per his wishes, his body has been donated to Des Moines University and no services are scheduled at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Hollis graduated from Hancock, Wis., high school in 1940 as class valedictorian. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on December 4, 1940, and was stationed at Pearl Harbor from 1940 to 1942. As a Photographers Mate, on December 7, 1941, he photographed the attack on Pearl Harbor. Later, Hollis served in the South Pacific before ending his military career in 1945 while stationed in Pensacola, Fla., as an aerial photography instructor. In 1944 Hollis married Nona Morey and they lived in Davenport until 1988. He worked as a salesman, primarily for Moore Business Forms before retiring and moving to Boone. Hollis married Wilma Carter November 19, 1993. Hollis was very active in the Mount Olive Masonic Lodge in Boone, where he was Past Master of Lodge and Treasurer. He was also a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, American Legion, VFW and Eastern Star. Hollis is survived by his loving wife, Wilma; two sons, Guy (Daria) Harold Hoard, of Davenport; and Gary (Kathleen) Edward Hoard, of Madrid; daughter, Nancy (Robert) Sue Briggs, of Boone; and his grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah and Melissa Briggs and Gerald Hoard. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nona Ruth Morey, on April 24, 1992. Hoard Special Services: Funeral services were held on Monday February 2, 2009 at the Hanlin Funeral Home. Clyde was laid to rest at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Arbela Twp. of Millington MI Pastor Ron Carey delivered the funeral message and the committal prayers. Clyde passed from our world into God's Kingdom early Thursday morning January 29, 2009 at his residence. Clyde was 85. Clyde H. Horad was born April 16 1923 in Arbela Twp. Michigan where he has been a life long resident. He was the son of Amos & Margarite (Smith) Hoard. He was a graduate of Millington High School. After high school Clyde joined the US-Marines and served during WW-II in the Pacific Theater. When he returned home Clyde went to work for General Motors as a Supervisor in the Parts Divison of the Swartzcreek Plant retiring in 1978. Clyde married Miss Marleah Leach in January of 1948, Clyde and Marleah have celebrated 61 years of marriage. Clyde was a past member of the GM-Excutive Club, and an active member of the Millington Baptist Church. Clyde also maintained a membership in the Millington - Arbela Historical Society. Clyde leaves; wife Marleah three sons and daughter in-laws; Ken & Kathy Hoard, Alan & Sheila Hoard, and Jeff & Dawn Hoard. nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. A brother and sister in law; Ron & Mary Lee Hoard. Three sisters two brother in-laws. Velma & Elden Price, Norma & Lloyd Taylor, and Carol Crews. sister in-law Jean Hoard, and a brother in-law Arthur Jolly. Clyde leaves also several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. She was a devoted wife, a dear mother and grandma. Opal was born September 21, 1931 in Detroit, MI and was the daughter of Reno and Elsie (Conway) Billyard. Opal was a resident of the Millington area for most of her life. She was a graduate of Millington High School, class of 1949. On October 25, 1952 Opal married Ronald (Ron) Hoard. Together they celebrated 47 years of marriage. Opal was a past member of the Millington Women's Club, the Sweet Adelines Club, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vassar. Opal leaves to cherish her memories her husband and family: Mr. Ronald (Ron) Hoard of Millington; children, Rod and Kathy Hoard of North Branch, O. Lena Jensen of Caro, Rona Van Amburg of Midland, Ona Lee Hoard of Saginaw; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Hoard, Lindsey and Jared Garcia, Meggen Jensen and Travis Jensen; 1 brother, Harry Billyard of Vassar; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Opal leaves her dear in-laws, Clyde and Marleah Hoard, Jean Hoard, Art Jolly, Carol Crews, Robert Burch, Velma and Al Price and Norma and Lloyd Taylor. Opal was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Quaderer and in-laws, Ray Hoard, Fran Jolly and Dorothy Burch. Funeral services for Opal will be held on Monday, October 25, 1999 at 11AM at the Vassar First Baptist Church with burial to follow at the Pinegrove Cemetery in Arbela Township. Pastor Douglas Stockwell will officiate the services. Friends may call on Sunday at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington from 1-9PM Sunday. Opal will lie in state at the church on Monday from 9:00AM until the services. Memorials in Opal's memory may be directed to the Vassar First Baptist Church. (Jenny) - Of Millington, MI passed away suddenly at her residence in Millington late Wednesday afternoon, May 19, 2004. Jenny was 74. Geneieve Wheaton was born in Flint, MI on February 13, 1930, and was the daughter of Claude and Alta (Emmons) Wheaton. She married Mr. Russell G. Hoard, November 10, 1956, Russ preceded her in death in November of 2003. Jenny was employed for 30 years with GM at the Chevrolet Manufacturing in Flint, retiring in 1983, she was also a member of UAW Local #659. Jenny leaves to cherish her memory her family: son, Russell W. (Russ) Hoard of Millington, MI; two granddaughters, Shera M. Hoard and Tammie Lynn Hoard; one great-granddaughter, Skylar Marie; two brothers, Mr. Howard Wheaton, and Jerry and Marge Wheaton, all of St. Helen, MI; four sisters, Betty and Eugene Burnett, Evelyn and Jim Norton, all of Gladwin, MI, Geraldine and Guy Snyder of Fostoria, MI, and Gertrude and Dave Berlin of Otter Lake, MI; sister-in-law, Evelyn and Rex Yost of Vassar; as well as several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Funeral services for Jenny were held at 11AM, Monday, May 24, 2004 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington, MI with burial in the Pinegrove Cemetery in Arbela Twp. If anyone would like to give a gift of remembrance in Jenny's memory, the family has suggested doing so to the Millington-Arbela Historical Society or to the Millington Community Center.
