Obituary:
BYRNE, Sean B. Sr. Sean Brendan Byrne, Sr., of Manchester, died peacefully at home with his beloved wife, Mary, and his children by his side on March 19, 2011, after a long battle with respiratory illness. Born in Rathangan, County Kildare, Ireland, to the late Patrick and Margaret (Hoar) Byrne, he is predeceased by his brothers, Jim, P.J., and Tommy, and sisters, Bridie and Nora. Sean immigrated to the United States in 1948, where he took his first job as a mechanic at Taber Cadillac in Hartford, CT. From 1950 to 1952, he served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Newfoundland during the Korean War, and worked on amphibious vehicles. Following his service time, Sean opened up several garages in the Hartford area. In 1996, he retired from the Metropolitan District Commission after providing 31 years of dedicated service as a mechanic and land surveyor. Sean will be remembered for his love of singing and dancing and his devotion to his wife and family. During his life, he was a member of the Irish American Home, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Manchester St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, and the Assumption Church choir. In 2002, he was selected to be the Grand Marshall of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Hartford. Sean was an avid supporter of the Hartford Gaelic Football Club and East Catholic sports. He was also lucky enough to witness two world championships by his beloved Boston Red Sox. Sean is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary, his three sons, Sean Byrne, Jr. of New York, and his wife, Eileen, Kevin Byrne of Connecticut, and his wife, Lori, Stephen Byrne of Connecticut, and his wife, Joann, and his three daughters, Susan Logan of Connecticut, and her husband, Brian, Eileen Kennedy of Connecticut, and her husband, Bobby, and Nancy O'Connor of Massachusetts, and her husband, Michael, thirteen wonderful grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind three brothers, Joseph Byrne of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Michael Byrne of Connecticut, and his wife, Maureen, and Morris Byrne of County Kildare, Ireland, four sisters, Mary Hollay of Connecticut, and her husband, Joe, Eileen Gordon and Cecelia Carroll of County Kildare, Ireland, and Nuala Heffernan of County Limerick, Ireland, and her husband, Eddie, and his brother-in-law, Patrick Leyden of Connecticut, and his wife Maureen. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 24, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 29 South Adams Street, Manchester. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow at the St. James Cemetery with full military honors. Obituary:
Stanley Franklin Clinton, 95, a resident of Heritage Court in Davenport, died on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at the Davenport Good Samaritan Center.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, at Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf, where he was a member. He will be laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight.

He was born on July 30, 1917, in Abingdon, Ill., the son of Ralph and Verna. On Sept. 22, 1942, he was united in marriage to Amelia Verna Bickel in San Francisco, Calif. She preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2004.

Stanley taught physical science from 1948 to 1982 at the Frank L. Smart Junior High School and the Williams Junior High School, both of Davenport. He was a graduate of Iowa Wesleyan University of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and earned master's degrees from the University of Illinois in Champaign, and Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M.

He was a U.S. Army-Air Corps veteran and served with the 22nd Troop Carrier Squadron in the South Pacific during World War II. He achieved the rank of major during his service and upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the American Theater Service Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal.

Stan was an accomplished athlete and loved to play tennis in earlier years. He also enjoyed running track and playing football.

In addition to the church, he was a member of the Davenport Educational Association and the National Educational Association.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Sharon (Kevin) Jones, Davenport; his son, Jeffrey (Deborah) Clinton, Davenport; his grandchildren, Jonathan (Caryn) Clinton, Andrew Clinton and Elizabeth Jones; his great-grandchildren, Amelia and Hunter; and his niece, Karen Burton.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harlan and Raymond; and by his infant sister, Helen.

Obituary:
Harold Layton Cooper
PARSONS - Harold Layton Cooper, 97, of Parsons, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Labette County Medical Center in Parsons.
He was born Aug. 20, 1907, in rural Linwood to Charles B. and Audrey (McLane) Cooper.
He grew up in DeSoto, Kansas City, Kan., and rural Dennis. He attended the Sylvandale School west of Dennis.
He married Opal Tracy on March 2, 1934, in Columbus. She survives.
He had lived in Parsons since 1934. In the mid-1930s, he owned and operated Coopers' Cafe in Parsons. He operated the restaurant at Phipps Bowling Alley and worked at the Kansas Ordnance Plant. In 1942, he began working for M-K-T Railroad as ta conductor and brakeman. He retired in 1972.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where he was active in the United Methodist men's group and the Criterion Sunday school class until a decline in his health. He was a member and past president of the Metro Club and was a member of the Parsons Lodge No. 117 AF & AM. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Sybil Sue Cooper of Garland, Texas; three sons, Harold "Bud" Cooper of Shawnee, Charles Cooper of Morrow, Ohio, and Steve Cooper of McCune; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two half sisters, Joyce Paxton of Holiday Island, Ark., and Margie Snodgrass of Sun City, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by one infant sister, Julia May, and two half sisters, Mildred Wilson and Bessie Golden.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons with the Rev. Paul Hett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Arrangements are under the direction of Carson-Wall Funeral Home.

Barbara Jean Hoar Drake, 66, of Moscow, died Saturday morning in Hospice Community Care in Dunmore.
Born Nov. 13, 1944, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late James and Edna Schwartz Hoar. She was a member of Moscow United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Atkinson and husband, David, Elmhurst; and Christine Beasley and husband, Aaron, Clermont, Fla; four sons, F. Thomas Drake, Tennessee; Chester Drake and wife, Marsha, Clifton Twp.; Michael Drake, Archbald; and Scott Collins, Vineland, N.J.; a sister, Karen Powell and husband, George, Moscow; two brothers, James Hoar Jr. and wife, Arlene, Delaware; and David Hoar and wife, Phyllis, Dawsonville, Ga.; four grandchildren, Casey Atkinson, David Atkinson, Caitlin Beasley and Carissa Beasley; and an aunt, Anna Jane Hoar, Moscow.
A memorial service will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Moscow United Methodist Church, Church Street, Moscow. Interment, private in Moscow Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 3085, Scranton, PA 18505. Arrangements by Duffy & Snowdon Funeral Home, Moscow.

Obituary:
GERRY - Harold L. Fargo, Jr., 85, formerly of Falconer, died at 12:15 p.m. Monday (Oct. 11, 2004) in the Heritage Village Health Care Center. An area resident most of his life, he was born April 20, 1919, in the town of North Harmony, the son of Harold L. and Ella Gladys Vergith Fargo.

He was a graduate of Chautauqua High School and in earlier years had been employed at the former Field and Wright Furniture Co., the Chautauqua County Highway Department, and later for 27 years by the former Art Metal Company.

He was a 25 year member of the International Association of Machinist Union Aerospace Workers Lodge 1559, a 50-year life member of the Jamestown Moose Lodge, and a 68-year member of the National Riffle Association and its Legion of Honor and Millennium Honor Roll.

He was very appreciative of the many things Dennis and Brenda Weiler and their son, Andy had done for him over the years.

He is survived by two brothers: Jarvis J. Fargo of San Jose, Calif., and Russell A. Fargo of Wakatu, New Zealand; and a sister Jean Fargo of New York City.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy D. Phelps, pastor of the Falconer United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service in the funeral home

Memorials may be made to the National Riffle Association; or the Falconer Library, Falconer, N.Y., 14733.

Obituary:
FLORENCE E. MAXWELL, 85, of Springfield, passed away Sunday evening, November 29, 2009 in Sterling House, Springfield.

She was born October 29, 1924 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio the daughter of Pierce B. and Christine (Moody) Gannon.

Florence was a 1942 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School. She was employed with the Credit Life Insurance Co. for 33 years. Florence was an active member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Allan) Mittlehauser of Alta Loma, California; granddaughters, Michele (William) Bowman of Bloomington, Illinois and Catherine (Patrick) Hickey of Summerlyn, Nevada; five great grandchildren, Ryan and Kelsey Bowman and Dylan, Kyle and Blake Hickey; two sisters, Ruth Ann Lemons and Janet Lou McDonald, both of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Maxwell; and two brothers, Paul and Edwin Gannon.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel M. Powell officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.

A committal service will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
