Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. The Rev. Julie May will officiate at the service. Friends may call from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Internment will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com Survivors include his wife, Virginia; two daughters, Cheryl Glick and Cynthia (David) Hauk, all of Cedar Rapids; mother-in-law, Iva Morning; brother, Jay of Anamosa; sister, Kathryn Garlick of Tipton; sisters-in-law, Catherine Thomsen, Kate Glick of Anamosa, and Menoki Glick of Mount Vernon; brother-in-law, Mike Lasack; and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Pete and Clifford; and sisters, Ruby, Nona, Reva and Doris. James Howard Glick was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Olin. He was the son of Miles Allen and Nellie Blanch Horr Glick. He attended Olin schools and worked for area farmers until entering into the service in 1942. He served in the South Pacific, seeing combat in the Marshall Islands, Layte, Philippines with the 767th tank battalion. He was in Okinawa when the Atomic Bomb was dropped on Japan ending the war. He was discharged July 25, 1945, at Fort Levenworth Kan. During the next years, he worked various jobs painting sorority houses in Iowa City, tool and die shop, Baumhoefener nursery with his friend Charlie Holland before returning to Olin and working at the Phillips 66 Station, and he drove an Olin school bus where he met his future wife Virginia Morning. They were married Sept. 2, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple then made their home in Anamosa. They had two daughters, Cynthia Sue (Cindy) and Cheryl Elizabeth (Cheri). Jim worked at the Olin Corners, Shell Station and Anamosa Motor Sales before Collins Radio. He worked his way from stock to test technician, studying with Cleveland School of Electronics at night school. He retired from Rockwell Collins after 24 years. During this time he was also a local painter, a job he resumed after retiring. He was a firm believer in union and was a union Stewart for many years in IBEW. He enjoyed fishing, raising tomatoes, playing the slots and being with his family and friends. He liked all people, he was his mother-in-law's support for many years. A.14 Alicia Ann Armstrong, 77 MILWAUKEE -- Alicia Ann Armstrong, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, in her residence at St. John's on the Lake, Milwaukee. She was born Aug. 25, 1926, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of John A. and Harriett M. (Hoar) Armstrong. During high school years, Alicia worked as a reporter for the Telegraph Herald in Dubuque. After graduating from the University of Iowa, she was employed by a newspaper in Davenport, Iowa, and then went to Milwaukee where she was a feature writer for the Milwaukee Journal, specializing in religion, senior citizens and the Milwaukee Zoo. She authored a book entitled 'Zooperstars,' and interviewed numerous famous individuals including Golda Meir and Eleanor Roosevelt. As a writer, she traveled to Israel, along with photographers, for the 25th anniversary of its statehood. The Journal devoted an entire Sunday supplement to her stories recounting her experiences there. In 1990 she was inducted into the Media Hall of Fame. When she retired, Governor Tommy Thompson, county executive William O'Donnell and Milwaukee Mayor Henry Maier proclaimed it 'Alicia Armstrong Day' in the state, county and city. Survivors include sisters: Jill (Dr. Denis) Faber of Dubuque, Paula (Dan) Figiel of Rockford, Illinois., Lisa Melnick of Hanover, Ill., Faye Dempsey of Redmond, Ore., Lynn (Peter) Freymann of Normal, Ill., and Jessica (Dr. James) Owens of Tulsa, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; brother, John Allen Armstrong III; and brothers-in-law, Herbert Melnick and Tom Dempsey. Later, she worked in payroll at Clow Corp in Oskaloosa for many years before retiring. In retirement, she moved to Tucson, Ariz., and lived there many years, and moved to Altoona in 2002. She was a member of the Oskaloosa First Christian Church; King's Daughters; and had volunteered at the snack bar at Mahaska County Hospital; Mahaska County Chapter of the American Red Cross; and helped at the Ecumenical Food Cupboard, and with getting new clothing for school age children. Her family includes a daughter and her husband, Conchita and Mike Johnson, of Ankeny; three grandchildren: Lori (Jeff) Carson, Kurt (Michelle) Johnson and Holly (Todd) Narber; seven great-grandchildren; her sister with whom she lived, Merridy Patrick, of Altoona; and another sister, Barbara "Peggy" White, in Oklahoma; and a sister-in-law: Louise Hoar, of Tucson, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Marjorie and Cathryn; and four brothers: Carl, Bob, John and Fred Hoar.
