Obituary: Meyersdale Republican Newspaper (Pennsylvania), published December 8, 1949
Mrs. Jennie Minerva Hoar, wife of Zed Hoar, Meyersdale, died at their home on Lincoln Avenue, Friday, December 2, after an illness of four weeks. Cerebral apoplexy was the cause of death. She was born March 4, 1894, the daughter of Daniel P. and Annie (Kennman) Brown, Meyersdale. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Helen Schumann of Baltimore, Md., and a son Harold Hoar, Meyersdale. Also surviving are two brothers, Frank P. Brown of Meyersdale and Henry Brown of Somerset, and two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Stein of Meyersdale and Mrs. Margaret Smith of Pittsburgh. She was a faithful member of Amity Evangelical and Reformed Church, where her body lay instate Monday afternoon from 12:30 to 2:30 when services were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E. C. Nagle. Pall bearers were Charles Gauntz, Walter Gress, Harvey Arnold, Howard Johnson, Carl Johnson and Quinter Gnagey. Interment was made in the Reformed Church cemetery under the direction of Stanley Thomas of Salisbury.

Deceased Name: Gerald E. Mahan
Active in Calvary Baptist Church
Gerald E. Mahan, 87, of Washington, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare in Washington, after being in failing health for the past few months.
Mr. Mahan was born June 9, 1924, in West Finley, a son of the late Thomas Albert and Flora Bell Allison Mahan.
He had resided in Washington since 1954.
Mr. Mahan was a former member of Broad Street Baptist Church and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, both of Washington, and had served on the deacon boards of both churches for several years.
He was a member of Merry Hearts Group of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed all the benefits of his church family.
Mr. Mahan enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling as long as his health permitted.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army Air Forces as a corporal in the Headquarters 8th Army Air Force Base Unit, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal.
Mr. Mahan was employed by the former Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. for 35 years, where he retired as a welding instructor in 1986.
On August 12, 1944, he married Evelyn Jean Stollar, who died July 22, 2010.
Surviving are a son, Robert E. Mahan Sr., husband of Darlene Mahan of Washington; two grandchildren, Amy Marie Ross and Robert E. Mahan Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Jena Marie and Jesse E. Ross.
Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are four brothers, Albert, Harvey, Burdett and Kenneth Mahan; three sisters, Beatrice Travis, Helen Horr and Vernelle Dinsmore; three half sisters, Uta Gittings, Pearl Kimble and Laura Wade; and two half brothers, Paul and Willard Mahan.
Mr. Mahan was the last of his immediate family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 21, with Pastor Fred W. McCloskey officiating. Interment will follow in West Finley Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1701 Ridgewood Drive, Washington, PA 15301. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville. Family and friends may view the obituary and send condolences at www.rushfuneralhomeinc.com.

Deceased Name: Obituary: Fred Granville Howard
Fred Granville (Hoar) Howard, age 91, passed away January 4, 2002 at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City after a brief illness. We honor him after a wonderful life as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He was born Dec 18 , 1910 near Orleans, Orange County, IN the seventh child of Matthew E. and Delilah Chastain Hoar. On Sept 29, 1930, he married his high school sweetheart, Blanche Marie Chastain in Eire, PA. They spent the majority of their married life in Austin, Texas and San Diego, CA.
Fred was a veteran who served in the Navy in World War II. He was a photo en-graver by profession, but enjoyed many hobbies including golf, gardening, hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles, and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years who passed away June 3, 2001 in Orem, UT; siblings, John Jay Hoar (1984), Walter Elmo Hoar (1988), Jacob Theaker Howard (1960), Cecil Ray Hoar (1958) and a set of twins, brother and sister, dying at birth (1904).
Prior to moving to Provo, UT Fred and Blanche had lived in Placentia, CA for the past few years.
Fred is survived by his only child, James Edward Howard; and daughter-in-law, Patrica, Provo, UT; five grandchildren, Travis Page Green-wood (Andrea); Rolling Hills Estates, CA, Suzanne Bringhurst (Gary), Boise, ID, Tamela Blake (Boyd), Provo, UT, Carolyn Clanton (Richard), Carthage, MO, James Mathew Howard, West Los Angeles, CA; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Mon. Jan 7, 2002, 11 a.m., Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 S. 300 E, Pleasant Grove where friends may call 10:15-10:45 a.m. Interment, American Fork City Cemetery.

Blanche Marie Howard, 92, of
Placentia, California, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully Sunday, June 3, 2001 in Orem, Utah. She was the only child of Barnett (Barney) Chastain and Ora Ellen Trinkle, born December 16, 1908 in Salem, Washington County, IN She married her sweetheart Fred Granville (Hoar) Howard on September 27, 1930 in Erie, PA and they have been happily married for over seventy years.
She is survived by her husband; son James Edward Howard (Patricia), Provo, UT; grandsons: Travis Page Greenwood (Andrea) of Rolling Hills Estates, CA and James Mathew
Howard of West Los Angeles, CA; granddaughters: Suzanne Bringhurst (Gary) of Boise, ID; Tamela Blake (Boyd) of Provo, UT; Carolyn Marie Clanton (Richard) of Carthage, MO; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Obituary of her brother:
G. Howard Horstman, former resident of Canonsburg, died Friday, April
5, 1963 at 3:30 PM in his home in Sarasota, FL. He had been in ill
health for some time. He was born November 1, 1901 in Fayette County, near Brownsville, a son of the late Samuel and Laura McKnight Horstman.
Mr. Horstman wa associated with the Herb Mackay Plumbing Company in
Canonsburg before moving to Florida, and was engaged in the plumbing
business there before his retirement.
He was a charter member of Canonsburg Sportsman's Club, and originated
the Business Men's Gun Club in Sarasota. Mr. Horstman was noted for
hisfine collection of antique guns.
The deceased was a member of First Christian Church, Sarasota.
Surviving are his wife, Sara O'Brian Horstman: three daughters,
Marcella, wife of Wilber Kotar, Canonsburg; Susan, wife of Thomas
Tolar, Sarasota, and Sara Ann, wife of Thomas Bidwell, St. Petersburg,
FL; one son, William Horstman, Sarasota; 11 grandchildren; four
sisters, Mrs. Walter Smith, Chicago, Mrs. Robert Horr, Mrs. Gregory
Blannock, and Miss Dora Horstman, all of Canonsburg, and two brothers,
Wilbert, and Harry Horstman, Canonsburg. The funeral services will be
held in the Toale Funeral Home, Bee Ridge Rd, Sarasota at 4 PM
Monday,
April 8. Burial will be in Sarasota.
