An early colonial family from England (?) via Barbados.
At the current time, we are identifying the group by Nicholas Mundy. But the only other match and researcher to join the project appears to have a different line through a Thomas Munday of colonial Virginia. This has yet to be resolved. Awaiting two other close matches with the surname to join and help resolve this discrepancy.

Background on Research

Much known of this large colonial America family is due to the research by Reverend Ezra F Mundy in his 1907 book, Nicholas Mundy & Descendants who Settled in New Jersey 1665. The Reverend Ezra F Mundy, born 1833, was descended from the original immigrant Nicholas Mundy, Jr.

The father Nicholas Mundy Sr is presumed to be born in England but no specific record positively identifies him. Many have speculated on Nicholas Mundy Sr's parents but the only record naming Nicholas Senior's father as "William" is a "record" of his late-in-life second marriage to Elizabeth Doughty (Doty). That notation included the incorrect death date of 1734 (which is his son Nicholas' death date). Actual marriage records never include a death date of the groom, so we can be sure this was a record compiled decades later. Likely by Ezra Mundy as his book contains the same error.

As stated in his book, mostly covered is grandson Samuel and his descendants. Samuel being the son of Samuel and a grandson of Nicholas Jr. The yDNA project will attempt to discern different lines; if possible and exist before and after Nicholas Mundy.

Ezra's book on the Mundy family has numerous errors; including right up front on page 2. Ezra combined father and son into one person which had Nicholas Sr. marrying his daughter in law and dying when Junior's will was probated in 1734. Many simply copied from Ezra's book with this error. See the clarification document in the references for how this has been untangled. Two versions exist. The published, printed copy from 1907. And a handwritten (by Ezra?) copy in a bound laboratory notebook.
