Junio was a son of Junio and Rebecca (Spaulding) Howard, Sr. On Jnuary 25, 1854, in Peru, NY, he married Diana Whipple and they had 3 sons, Rev. Herbert, John F., and William B.; and 2 daughters, Sarah Florence and Elsie Macelia. He enlisted for the Civil War and served from 1863 to 1865 in Company K, 16th Regiment, New York Heavy Artillery. After his wife died, Junio went to the Dakotas on a soldier's claim. Later, when his heath began to fail, he returned to Northern NY state and lived with his children.
