      Deceased Name: SEARS - William R.
      SEARS - William R., 91, World War II Veteran and Recipient of the Soldier's Medal. A longterm resident of Clifton, died Saturday of complications of Parkinson's Disease at Hackensack University Medical Center. He was 91. Born and raised in Carlton Hill, East Rutherford, he attended local East Rutherford schools, excelled in sports, and was captain of the high schools basketball team. Additionally, he played Industrial League basketball and soccer for many years. Mr. Sears worked for more than fifty years at Continental Can Company beginning in the Passaic office and then transferring to Paterson where he was a photo lithographer before retiring in 1983. He also worked part-time at Johnson Drug Store and Clifton Pharmacy. For the past seven years he resided in Allendale, NJ. He was affectionately called "Google" by family and friends. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific as a B-24 Crew Chief. He was awarded the Soldier's Medal, the highest award for bravery in a non-combat situation, for rescuing two airmen from a burning plane. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His wife of 58 years, the former Delia M. Hoar of Passaic, preceded him in death in 1999. He is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Lynn Sears Byank of Phoenix, MD; Janice Sears Jaffe of Boston, and Denise Sears Moss of Ramsey, NJ. He is also survived by two granddaughters: Karen Byank Mathura of Bethesda, MD, Lisa S. Byank of Washington, DC, and a great-granddaughter, Kali A. Mathura of Bethesda, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Parkinson's Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, NY, NY, 10018. Funeral from the Macagna-Diffily Funeral Home, 41 Ames Avenue, Rutherford, NJ on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 8:45 AM, thence to St. Mary's R.C. Church where the funeral mass will be offered at 9;45 AM. Visiting hours are Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
