Born and raised in Chicopee, he had lived in various Western Massachusetts towns throughout his life before settling to Springfield recently. Prior to retirement in 1994, he had worked as a driver for the handicapped and previously had worked for several different local businesses. Aside from work, he was an active competition roller skater many years ago, a black line artist, and was involved in several construction-oriented hobbies. Mr. Hoar is survived by his wife, Bertha M. (MacDonald) Hoar; his four children, Mary Ann T. Prendergast of Holyoke, Thomas Hoar of Ludlow; William Hoar of Easthampton &Margaret Stark of Westfield; two sisters, Joyce Arruda &Jean Brunelle, both of Texas; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson, and several close friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, 12 p.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Rd., Springfield, with burial following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
