George F. Horr, 82, of Portland died Thursday at Woodford Park Nursing Facility after a lengthy illness.
Born on Cliff Island, he was the son of Orison and Nellie Chapman Horr.
In his younger years, Mr. Horr was an amateur boxer. Shortly thereafter, he built his own lobster boat and fished in and out of Casco Bay throughout his whole life. He enjoyed cooking, working on his boat and was especially fond of the ocean.
A son, George Orison Horr, died previously.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Meeda Packard Horr; seven daughters, Lucy Knowles of Exeter, N.H., Lelia Eaton of Center Ossipee, N.H., Rose Cummings of Old Orchard Beach, Meeda DiDonato and Diane Costa, both of Portland, Peggy Walsh of Mexico and Eva McLaughlin of Auburn; two sons, Fred Cummings of Burlington, N.H., and Ernest Horr of Portland; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Hay & Peabody Funeral Home, 749 Congress St., where a funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Forest City Cemetery, South Portland.
