He was an industrious and successful farmer, buying when a young man the farm at the corner of the Perryville and Carpenter roads, - a poor, sterile place, and after half a century leaving it one of the most fertile and highly cultivated farms in town. Mr. Horton was a good citizen, highly respected for his sterling qualities of mind and heart, and a prominent member of the Annawan Baptist Church. He had four children, but survived them all. He died Nov. 11, 1890, aged seventy-seven years.
