Undated clipping from the scrapbook of Georgia Pangborn:
Rites Wednesday For Andrew Hoar, Emmet Pioneer. Services for Andrew Hoar, 95, Levering, who died Sunday at Petoskey Geriatrics & Care Center, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Bliss Church. Rev. Mrs. Norman will be in charge and burial will be in the Bliss Cemetery. He was one of Emmet county's earliest settlers. Mr. Hoar was born Sept. 8, 1870 at Greensboro, N. C. The family came to Michigan in 1876. He was married Grace A. Crandall on Aug. 9, 1897 in Petoskey and they made their home in Center township until 1911 when they moved to Bliss. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Sarah) Staley of Detroit and Mrs. Mervyn (Ruby) Schmalzried of Levering; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. One of his grandchildren, Andrew Staley died while serving in the Army following a cerebral hemorrhage and services are this afternoon in Detroit. The body will be at the farm home Tuesday afternoon when friends may call. The family has suggested that persons wishing to honor the memory of Mr. Hoar may do so by contributing to the Emmet Retarded Children's School in care of Mrs. Schmalzried.
