Carlson died Tuesday evening in the Butte hospital. She was born in Butte on Oct. 27, 1905, to George and Kate (Helman) Hoar and attended local schools including Butte Business College. She had worked in the book keeping department of Symon's, which later became Burr's Department Store. She later worked for Butte Metal Trades Union and then retired from Montana Livestock in 1981. She had been a member of The Women's Protective Union. Sylvia married Edwin Ed'' Carlson in 1937 in Butte. He died in 1984. She was also preceded by sisters, Elfrieda, Odie, Naomi and Opal, and by brothers, Frederick and George. Mrs. Carlson is survived by sister, Ivy Lyle of Richland, Wash.; brother-inlaw and sister-in-law, Earl and Pat Carlson of Butte; sister-inlaw and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Cliff Westfall of Butte; numerous nieces and nephews including Beverly McClafferty and Georgia Evankovich, both of Butte. At her request, cremation has taken place in Butte. Memorial services are 1 p.m. Saturday in WayrynenRichards Funeral Home. Memorials: Butte Emergency Food Bank or charity of the donor's choice.
