Historically the largest supplier of genetic testing equipment in the industry (at least in the USA). Both microarray and WGS testing. Growth largely through mergers and acquisitions. Provides most of the equipment used in this field.
The original sequencing equipment was from an acquisition of Solexa from the UK. The original patents allowing Illumina to gain a near monopoly with their original HiSeq and then follow-on Novaseq products. The Novaseq 6000 was the industry mainstay for the 2010's decade and tha many projects doing population sequencing for studies of medical variants. Their new Novaseq X does not compete even with the older DNB T7 in terms of throughput and cost. So we are beginning to see most vendors in the personal WGS space switch over now that MGI is more widely available.
