If you have additional information on this person please contact Shirley: sjk37(at)cpinternet.com [[To: MrsEdson(at)gmail.com Mon, Aug 10, 2009 Subject: Olive Elizabeth Mather Hi, Thru doing some family search in Rootsweb.com I came across a request for info. This may not be of any help, but my Great-grandfather, George Edson Mann, was married to a Olive Elizabeth Mather. They had three children- George E. Mann b 8/6/1867 d 10/13/1869: Emmett E. Mann b 1/15/1872: and Jennie Mann b 2/22/1874. Olive died 6/25/1875 and George died in February 1876. Some of this information was given to my family years ago by a Minnie Mann Hewitt from KC, MO. According to other info from Roots, Olive was married 3 times, 1 - William Brown 8/7/1851; one child - Olive Elizabeth Brown. 2 - McCartney 8/21/1866 in Paulding Co, Ohio; 3 - George Edson Mann. I am assuming they married in 1866 since his first wife died on 9/27/1865. There were 8 children by that first marriage - one was my grandfather. If this is of no help to you, disregard. If it is and you have any info that would be of interest to me, please email at sjk37(at)cpinternet.com. Thanks. Shirley | Mann, George Edson (I36889)

19669 | Information was kindly contributed by Blake Georgie. If you have additional information on this person please contact Blake: nettech_00(at)yahoo.com Lancaster, Schuyler, MO is where he owned the Lancaster newspaper Early History of Schuyler County Newspapers In 1856, Huron Jackson of La Grange, MO., had the distinction of establishing the first printing press in Schuyler County. His paper was called "The Lancaster Herald" and was sold to Wilbur Wells in 1857 who continued to publish it until 1859. It was succeeded in 1859 by the "Lancaster Democrat" owned and edited by Mains and Elder from Ohio. Being Democratic, the paper grew in disfavor, so the editors closed the shop and returned to Ohio, where they later edited a successful paper. From this time there was a break in the continuity of newspapers because of the Civil War. At Lancaster, in March 1866, Captain H.C. Cutler started printing the weekly "Lancaster Excelsior," a Republican paper at the time. He associated himself with Captain F.M. Wilcox, who continued the paper until 1871, when they sold out to Samuel Dysart and H.A. Miller, who began using a steam-powered press and with more up-to-date machinery and materials, had an excellent and thriving newspaper. Mr. Miller sold it to W.M. Hunter, who in turn sold out to J.R. Thompson. Mr. Thompson died, and in 1894 the office was bought by Clyde L. Starrett. He sold it to Winfred Melvin who had charge of the paper until 1898 when the paper was sold to John R. Rippey Sr. Mr. Rippey died in 1909 in which year Winfred Melvin again purchased the paper from the Rippey heirs. W.O. "Billy" Forsythe became owner of the Excelsior in 1915. The present publisher (1964), Jim Forsythe took over the paper in 1941 when his father died. In 1956 he moved the Excelsior to a new location, one door north of the Schuyler County Bank were the Lancaster Excelsior, Queen City Monitor-Leader, Greentop Reporter and the Downing News are printed. The Excelsior will be 100 years old in 1966 and prior to 1890 had been printed in the same building where the new plant is located. In 1871, Cutler and Wilcox started "The Glenwood Criterion" at Glenwood, in the interest of the Republican Party. It continued until the year prior to the 1876 Presidential Election when it was conducted by H. Martin Williams as a Democratic paper. The Criterion ceased publication early in the 1890's and was succeeded by the "Phonograph" established in 1894. The Phonograph was edited by H.W. Williams, Sam S. Sherman, J.F. Botts, L.B. Osborne, M.M. Mann and W.O. "Billy" Forsythe. Its last editor was Mrs. Fred Crook who suspended publication in 1910. The first paper published in Queen City was the "The Globe" in 1873. The Queen City Transcript came along in 1887, edited by Nathan D. Johnson. At different times it was owned by J.T. Roberts, C.F. Bartlett and Hack Ballew. J.W. Naught, principle of the Queen City Schools in 1893, leased the paper for one year, then purchased it. Honorable W.C. Biggs, County Representative in 1905-1907, established the Queen City Leader in 1897 and conducted it until 1909. The transcript and Leader were combined and had two owners, Oren Osborne and Milton Patterson. These two papers were finally consolidated, and thus, evolved the Queen City Monitor-Leader and owned (1964) by Jim Forsyth of Lancaster. The Downing News was being published in the early 1900's by J.F/ Hargis and was independent in politics. When I was told the Bible was missing I got this information from Granny: Pernalia Jane Mellinger (Amick) known as Pearl her Mother was Eliza Margaret Boggs Mother Eliza's father was George Washington Boggs (Red haired Irish) Eliza's mother was Artie Myrar Vanoi or Vanoy (Boggs) Part Souix Indian Artie Myrar 's mother was Anna Eliza Vannoy (Part Sioux) Born Dec. 25 1807 Died June 17 1908 Artie Myrar 's father was supposed to be full bolooded Indian Sioux (Granny once told me that her grandmother would travel to each of her children's homes and spend a month with them. I suspect there were twelve but not sure. She also said when she came they had to treat her hair with karosene to get rid of the lice. ) Granny's father (Denny Ferdinan Mellinger) Scotch Irish Denny's father was Freeborn Mellinger (Doctor) Irish Black Headed 6'7" 333 lb. Bought land and left when yellow fever Elizabeth Jane Mathers Mellinger brought from New Brunswick Scotland to USA. Journey took 6 weeks by sail. Her sister was buried at sea. The death was caused by sea sickness. Elizabeth Jane Mellinger (Mathers) married Dr. Freeborn Mellinger. They had 6 children Lisa Gilmore (Mellinger) Hick Mellinger, Alexander Mellinger (Barber in Queens City) Can't read my own writing. Can't tell if Lisa or Alexander was in Queens City. Don't know what it means and don't know if the spelling is correct. I haven't had time to compare to what you sent. I do know the Bible went through the flood of 1870. Granny told me it was to be passed down to the Jane's of the family. There were a lot of children lost at very young ages. I have a notation from Mom (87) and she gets these names confused. I think Granny was more reliable that Grandma Mellinger's name was Liza Jane Brown Mellinger. I am currently trying to get Mom's Medicare card straightened out. It is listed Pauline P and her Insurance and Soc Sec card read Pearl Pauline. I hope we don't have to provide a birth certificate because either Pop or his mother Corrine listed Mom's name as Pearl Corrine Or Corrine Pearl. That is all I need! With the new identity problems this could be a hassle. Was no problem until Insurance went to complete automation. This is what I have on Pop This came from Granny again Melvin Harrison Amick his father was Frank Harrison Amick Grandma Amick was a Brown when she married Frank Harrison Amick They lived at Novinger, Mo and owned a sawmill.
