Lunenburg Co. VA was created from Brunswick Co. in 1746. Halifax Co. was created from Lunenburg in 1752. Charlotte Co. was created from Lunenburg in 1764-5. EKA in our group at the moment is Jesse Munday - Halifax Co. and also Person County.

1703 Will of Thomas Munday: The will of Tho: Munday of Sittenbourne parish in the County of Essex and Colony of Virginia was dated 1 August 1702. Sick and weak of body. To eldest son Thomas Munday and his heirs my new plantation “at the Upper part of my land bounded beginning at a Spanish oak at the Spring belonging to the sd Plantacon and so runing Down the branch of the sd Spring untill you come unto the maine branch thence up that branch which John Graves his Spring is in to my Westermost Line thence along my sd line to my corner tree being a Spanish oak thence along east or thereabouts to my next corner tree and thence along till you come to the white oak Swamp thence up the sd Swamp to a marked white oak upon the head of the sd White oak swamp thence along the Eastermost side of the sd plantacon to the first mentioned Spanish oak to him as aforsd”. To son John Munday and his heirs “all my Land lying on the eastermost side of my son Thomas Plantacon before bequeathed beginning at a marked white oak at the head of ye White oak swamp quite down to the Desert swamp”. To son Charles Munday and his heirs “all the rest of my Land not yet bequeathed Lying on ye Eastermost side of the desert swamp untill you come unto the saw pit branch”. To son Joseph Munday “plantacon where I now live upon to him & his heirs…withall the rest of my Land adjacent to the sd plantacon not before bequeathed”. To son Thomas Munday “two mares and a Colt he having the same now in his own possession”. To son Thomas Munday “two cows he having the same now in his possession”. To son Thomas Munday “two Cows and two Calves as also a Steer of seven years old to be delivered unto the sd Thomas Munday as soon as he Shall go to house keeping”. To son Thomas Munday “a new fether bed and furniture”. To son Thomas Munday “Six large Pewter Dishes & Six large Pewter plates to be delivered unto him the sd Thomas Munday as soon as he Shall go to house keeping”. To son Thomas Munday “an Iron pot a Middlesize pot holsters pistolls and sword the sd pot as soon as he shall go to housekeeping but the holsters pistolls and sword to be Delivered up to the sd Thomas Munday Immediately after my Decease”. To “Eldest Thomas Munday one irish boy named Thomas to be delivered unto the sd Thomas Munday Immediately after my decease”. The said “Thomas Munday John Munday or any of my sons to whom I have bequeathed my Lands may have Lawfull power and authority to convey and Dispose of any part or parcell of their Lands by me bequeathed each one to another from brother to brother in Case of necessity or convenience but not to convey or Dispose of any part or parcell of the aforesd bequeathed Lands to any person or persons whatsoever but from brother to brother as aforesd as for the rest of my Estate negroes goods houshold goods chattels and Implements whatsoever I do give and bequeath unto my Loveing wife Sarah my Son John my son Charles my son Joseph my Daughter Hannah my daughter ffrances my daughter Mary and my Daughter Martha the same to be brought to an appraisemt and to be equally divided Amongst them”. Eldest Son Thomas Munday and Loveing wife Sarah to be executor and executrix, and they should give good security for my Childrens Estate While they shall attaine to lawfull age. I further desire that “my Loveing brother ffrancis Brown see that his my Last will & Testament be justly and honestly performed according to the true Intent and meaning thereof”. 1704 A True and Perfect Rent Roll of all the Lands held in Essex County, Virginia this present year 1704. Thomas Munday listed as holding 500 acres. (Source - English Duplicates of Lost Virginia Records by Louis des Cognets, Jr.).

On 19 August 1707, an inventory of the good and chattles of James Reeves was taken in Essex County, Virginia in obedience of a court order of 11 August 1707. The appraisers were Robert Mills, William Grinall, and John Waggoner. Total valuation 112-14-11, plus an additional 11-13-2. “Presented by Henry Reeves, Joseph Reeves and Thomas Munday & Mary his wife late Mary Reeves Admrs of the Estate of James Reeves…” (Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 13, pages 33–35.)

In an undated petition, Martha Munday Humbly Sheweth that her father Thomas Munday late of this County decd did by his last will & Testament Give unto ye pet a Certain part or propor (illeg, one word) of his personall Estate…she has not received her portion from the executrix Sarah who was the wife of Thomas, and son Thomas. On 18 March 1711 a case was brought to Essex County court. “Edward Coleman & Ann his wife Robert Moss & Martha his wife (tear) refer a petition agt Henry Reeves Joseph Reeves and Thomas Munday admrs of the Estate of James Reeves dated and set forth that the sd Admrs refuse to make up an acct of the sd (tear) his Estate and pay the sd Ann & Martha sisters to the sd deced their parts. therefore ordered…” a summons. On 22 May 1717 in Essex County court, Thomas Munday appeared and expressly refused to taken upon himself the executorship of the will of Elizabeth Pursell. (Essex County, Virginia, Order Book 5, page 39.)

On 23 May 1717 in Essex County court, a petition of James Boughan against Thomas Munday was continued until the next court by consent of the parties. (Essex County, Virginia, Order Book 5, page 18.)

On 17 July 1717 in Essex County court in the case of Boughan vs Munday, Thomas Munday presented an account which was recorded. “A true & perfect list of all the payts that I heave made as yet to my brothers & sisters belonging to the Estate of my hounour’d ffather—as followeth—”, showing payments:

On 17 January 1718/9, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Thomas Mondy was made by John Graves, John Merritt, Robt. Elliott and John Smith, pursuant to an order of November 1718. Total valuation £22.14.9. Signed by Mary her + mark Munday. Ordered recorded 18 February 1718. (Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 3, pages 81–82.)

On 19 May 1719, Mary Munday, administratrix of Thomas Munday returned his estate account for 1718. Payments made to James Munday. Signed by Mary Munday, administratrix. (Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 3, pages 91–92, as abstracted by John Frederick Dorman.)

Arthur Munday died 1713 in Cecil County, Maryland. Catherine Munday his wife in a will written in 1718 and proved in 1724, named William Boren and Henry Starr as her administrators. In her will she mentions daughter Jane, a married daughter and a son Arthur who was under age.

On 17 September 1729, Thomas Munday of St. Ann’s Parish, planter, in love and affection of his brother James Munday of St. Ann’s Parish gave James a piece of land or wood land, “part of a tract of land given by Thomas Munday of the aforesd pish sic County & Colony decd Grandfather to Thomas Munday party to these presents by his last will and Testament to Thomas Munday of the pish County and Colony aforesd decd father to the aforesd Thomas Munday party to these presents relation being thereunto had may more fully and at large appear…” Signed with the marke of Thomas T Munday. On 17 October 1732, James Munday and Thomas Merritt, planters, jointly purchased land in St. Ann’s Parish from Benjamin Graves for 2,000 pounds of tobacco. (Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 19, pp. 376–380.)

On 15 March 1735, Thomas Merritt sold to James Munday his interest in the property they had jointly purchased of Benjamin Graves. (Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 21, pp. 149–150.)

On 20 October 1739, James Munday of St. Ann’s Parish, planter, sold 130 for £30 to William Jones of South Farnham Parish. (Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 22, pp. 92–94.)

On 5 May 1744, James Munday, planter, sells to William Beverley, Esquire, the 115 acres on which he now resides in St. Ann’s Parish, purchased of Mary Pagett, widow. (Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 23, pp. 151–153.)

On 6 May 1744, William Beverley, esquire, leases to James Munday and Lucy his wife the land that they had sold him the previous day. The lease is for life, with rent due every 29 September for 2 shillings 4 pence sterling. (Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 23, pp. 153–154.)

On 23 April 1745, James Munday witnessed the will of John Pagett of the Parish of South Farnham and County of Essex. (Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 7, pages 329–330.)

On 18 June 1745, Peggy Pagett and James Munday were bound £100 sterling for Peggy Pagett’s execution of the last will and testament of John Pagett. (Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 7, pages 330–331.)

James Munday received material property in the 1748 will of his mother Mary Munday and was named executor. James presented the will in court on 17 January 1748/1749. (Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 8, pages 126–127.)

“To all People to whome this shall Come I Mary Pagett widow and Relict of Ephraim Pagett late of Essex County decd Sondeth Greeting Know ye that the sd Mary Mary Pagett for And in Consideration for the sum of four Hundred & fifty pounds of Tobacco to be paid to her Yearly by James Munday Senr his heirs or assigns, hath remised released and forever quit claimed, and by these presents doth fully and absolutely remise & unto the sd James Munday his heirs or assigns all manner of Dower and right of Title of Dower whatsoever…” Signed Mary Paget, James Munday. 1749 Isaac Munday was paid in 1749, 1750, 1764 for service in VA militia (incl. French & Indian Wars) from Lunenburg Co. He was also tithed there in those years (Source - "Sunlight on the Southside," Bell).

On 18 August 1752, James Munday and Lucy his wife sold to William Beverley the 115 acres on which they live for £30. This is the land that had been leased to them by Beverley in 1744. On 20 May 1753, James Munday witnessed Mary Haile’s acknowledgement to a deed from Thomas Haile and Elizabeth his wife of Essex County of John Latane. (Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 26, pages 256–261.)

On 22 September 1762, administration of the estate of James Munday deceased was granted to Lucy Munday his widow, with John Clements her security. (Essex County, Virginia, Order Book 24, page 150.)

On 22 November 1767, James Munday's widow Lucy Munday independently sold property that he had purchased from Lucy’s sister Mary Paggett, so he had presumably died by that date. (Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 30, p. 185.)

On 15 February 1768, on the motion of John Boughan, James Croxton and Thomas Chilton, Essex County court ordered that John Edmondson, James Booker, Thomas Wood and James Banks or any three of them settle the administration of James Munday and divide and allot the estate according to law. 1792 John Dunkley married in April 1792, Tabitha Munday; they were married at the home of Winney Morefield, wife of John Morefield in Halifax county (no relationship was shown between Winney Morefield and the soldier or his wife). Winney Morefield was still living in Halifax county, Virginia in 1845, when her age was given as eighty-five years.
