  [[ Obituary: Worcester Telegram & Gazette (MA) - October 11, 2006 Deceased Name: Lorna J. Carter WHITINSVILLE Lorna J. (Smethurst) Carter, 66, of North Main St. died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006 at her home. She was the wife of Dennis Carter. Mrs. Carter was born April 25, 1940 in Gardner the daughter of the late Raymond and Mildred F. (Hoar) Smethurst. She had been a resident of Hopedale and Worcester before moving to Whitinsville in 1990. Mrs. Carter was a founding member of the First Assembly of God Church, Lincoln St., Worcester and she brought many people to the Lord. In addition to her husband, companion and soulmate, Dennis, she is survived by four sons; David B. Phelan (and his wife Donna) of Spencer, James M. Phelan (and his fianc?ee Barbara Dusoe) of Whitinsville, Steven A. Phelan of Spencer and Thomas S. Phelan (and his fianc?ee Angela Williams) of Oxford; a brother, Robert B. Smethurst of Seville, FL; seven grandchildren and a great grandson. She was recently pre-deceased by her closest friend of 40 years, Margaret "Peggy" Prefontaine. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006 in the First Congregational Church of Milford, 4 Congress St., Milford. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Glenallen St., Winchendon. Visiting hours will be Friday, Oct. 13, 2006 from 5-8 PM in the BUMA SARGEANT FUNERAL HOME, 42 Congress St., Milford. www.bumafuneralhome.com
