    Deceased Name: VIOLET H. ELLIOTT MUSIC AND ART TEACHER
    Violet H. Elliott, 85, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Lake Titus, died Thursday at Kachina Pointe Health Care, Sedona, Ariz.
    Early in her career, Mrs. Elliott taught music at Sherman Street School and South Junior High School in Watertown.
    She then taught art at elementary school in Malone and in the Brushton-Moira Central School District. She then did substitute teaching in the Malone Central School District for several years before her retirement.
    Born Dec. 29, 1912, in Potsdam, daughter of Lennon and Nina Scanlin Horr, she graduated from Potsdam High School and earned a teaching degree from Potsdam Normal School in 1933.
    She married Leon A. "Duke" Elliott on Aug. 19, 1940, in St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Joseph L. Tierney, pastor, officiating. The couple moved to Malone in 1951 and were the co-creators of Elliott & Hutchins Inc., the distributor for Bombardier for the Northeast.
    Mr. Elliott, the man who brought the first Ski Doo snowmobile to the United States in 1959, died April 12, 1992.
    Mrs. Elliott was a past member of the Alice Hyde Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board of Directors and also was one of the creators of the annual fund-raiser, Rose Day. She directed the first Malone Winter Carnival Revue, "The Roaring 20s," and was past president of the Women's Club, Paradise Valley, Ariz.
    She is also a past member of St. Joseph's Church, Malone, and was a member of the Malone Duplicate Bridge Club and the Lake Titus Protective Association. She was also a member of the Potsdam State University College Trustee Council.
    Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Jayne) Crossman, Malone, and Sharon Nagy and Susan "Tudy" Longmire, both of Sedona; a sister, Mrs. James (Betty) Coughlin, Malone; five granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
    A brother, Darwin Horr, and a niece died before her.
    A memorial Mass will be said at 1 p.m. Dec. 9 at St. Joseph's Church, Malone, with the Rev. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery, Malone.
    Arrangements are with St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home, Malone.
    Donations may be made to the North Franklin Animal Shelter in care of Shirley Morton, Barehill Road, Malone, or to the American Lung Association.
