    Bernard Eaton Keith
    November 09, 1923 - March 25, 2000

    Braintree - Bernard Eaton Keith, 76, of Braintree died on Saturday, March 25th at Bon Secours - St. Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida after a brief illness. Born at Brockton he was a longtime Braintree resident. He was a graduate of the Hollis School in Braintree and the Quincy Trade School.

    He was a master plumber and he owned the Keith Plumbing Company in Braintree. For 28 years he served as the Plumbing and Gas Inspector for the Town of Braintree. He retired from that position in 1988.

    A WWII U.S. Army Veteran he served with the 48th Division Engineers. He served in Central Europe, Naples, Italy, the Rhineland, Rome, Italy and Southern France. He was wounded at Casino, Italy and received the Purple Heart. He also received the Distinguished Unit Citations and Badges and the European-African-Middle East Service Medal among others. He served from August 1943 to October 1945.

    He attended the Heritage United Methodist Church in South Braintree. He enjoyed travelling and traveled to Europe five times. He spent 12 winters at Port Charlotte, Florida where he enjoyed swimming in Florida waters. He loved gardening and raising vegetables and giving them to others.

    He was a member of the Delta Lodge of Masons in Braintree and the Braintree Chapter of Disabled American Veterans.

    He is survived by his wife: Lois F. (Cheney) Keith; a son: Arthur E. Keith of Holbrook; a daughter: Joan E. Keith of Alexandria, Virginia; two granddaughters: Shannon Marie Keith and Christina Leigh Keith; and a sister: Majorie Mack of Holbrook who is married to the former Chief of the Holbrook Police, Francis Mack.

    A funeral service will be held at the Heritage United Methodist Church 236 Grove St. South Braintree on Monday at 10:00 A.M. The Reverend Karen Bryant pastor of the Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Blue Hill Cemetery on West St. in Braintree. Visiting hours are at the Peck Funeral Home 516 Washington St. on Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Memorial donations may be sent to the Hospice of the Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.
