Miss Ellen Hoar Dies In Barre;
Second Woman Lawyer In State
Miss Ellen M. M. Hoar, 75, of 156 S. Main St., Barre, died this morning. She had been in ill health some time.
She was born in Barre, Nov. 28, 1887, daughter of Richard A. and Mary Mercy (Keith) Hoar.
She attended local schools and was a graduate of Spaulding High School in 1909. She also was graduated from the University of Maine Law School in 1914. She completed the law school training one year before the required time. Miss Hoar was admitted to the Vermont Bar in 1914 and was the second woman in the state to pass the bar examinations.
She served many years as the Vermont vice president of the Woman Lawyer's Association of the United States and Canada.
She participated in the National Woman's Party in its women's suffrage movement in Vermont. She also was associated with her father in his law practice until ill health forced her semi-retirement.
For many years, she was active in the community and church organizations and was active in war work in World Wars I and II.
She was a member of the Barre Congregational Church and the
Vermont Bar Association.
She leaves two brothers, Redfield Hoar, East Monepelier, and Richard Hoar, Montpelier; a sister, Mrs. Hubert P. (Elizabeth) Cushman, Winthrop, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hooker Funeral Home. The Rev. Ernest L. Seely, pastor of the Barre Congregational Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetary.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Obituary:
Charlotte C. Kilgore, 87, of Peabody formerly of Lynnfield died on Saturday, March 2 at the Brooksby Village in Danvers.

Born in Newton on September 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Elizabeth (Hoar) Cushman.

Mrs. Kilgore was a graduate of Winthrop High School, Class of 1943. She had attended Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing from 1944 to 1946 and was a graduate of Hickox Secretarial School in Boston, Class of 1947. Mrs. Kilgore was a resident of Peabody for the past 10 years and had been a resident of Lynnfield for 50 years. She was a retired secretary for the Woburn Camber of Commerce and was an Avon Lady for 20 years. Mrs. Kilgore was past treasure and president for the AMVETS Auxiliary Post 48 in Winthrop. She was a member of the Cog Wheel and Church Choir at the Centre Congregational Church in Lynnfield. Mrs. Kilgore had also enjoyed volunteering her time to many organizations.

Mrs. Kilgore was the wife of the late Charles Kilgore. She was the mother of Susan Mattia and her husband Ernest, and Abigail Kilgore all of Lynnfield, Charles "Skip" Kilgore and his wife Leslie of North Reading, Jane Jenkins and her husband Kenneth of North Andover, and the late James and Dorothy Kilgore. Mrs. Kilgore was the sister of the late Betty Orrall and Hubert Cushman Jr. She was the grandmother of Charles "Chuck", Daniel Kenny, Niocholas, Kevin, Kristofer, and the late Keith Jenkins. Mrs. Kilgore was the great grandmother of Charlie, Isabelle, and Adrianna.

Her funeral services will be held at the Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St., Lynnfield on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the church prior to the service from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National MS Society, Greater New England Chapter P.O. Box 845945 Boston, MA 02284-5945 or to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B102, Danvers, MA 01923.

Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
