Joseph Hoar, Jr. (1740-1816), was a member of the Committee of Safety; entered the army as ensign, and was lieutenant under General Gates at the surrender of Burgoyne. He was promoted captain for bravery.
James Smith (1692-1776) was a member of the Board of Selectmen which drew up the Palmer Declaration of Independence, June 13, 1776.
