MRS, ELLEN HOBART DANIELS
Mrs, Ellen Hobart Daniels, widow of
the late George D. Daniels, died at the
Homer hospital at an early hour Monday
morning as the result of injuries
sustained on the night of October 22
when she fell down the rear stairway of
her apartments in Mrs. Adel Will's
house in Elm avenue, as told in the Republican
of Octobr 4. She was taken
to the Homer hospital at once, suffering
from a fractured hip, severe bruises and
it is thought, a slight fracture at the
base of the skull. All that could be
done for her comfort and the relief of
Buffering was done at the hospital and
by her devoted daughter, Mrs. C. R.
Merrill and her sister, Mrs. Alice Skinner,
who has spent much time in recent
years with her at her home here and
who was with her at the time of her
sad accident.
Little hope of her recovery was entertained
from the first and her strength
gradually failed until death came to
relieve her of her&suffering.
Mrs. Daniels was a lifelong resid ent
of Homer. She was the eldest daughter
of Manley and Caroline Boise Hobart
and was born May 13, 1843, on the
Hathway farm north of this village and
her education was obtained in the district
schools and in Homer academy.
She was married March 2, 1862 to
George D. Daniels then employed in a
Syracuse dry goods store. Soon after
marriage they took up their residence
in Homer where Mr. Daniels entered
into the dry goods and grocery business
with the late P. C. Kingsbury and for
20 years they continued successfully in
business together and later Mr. Daniels
engaged in other business enterprises,
for some years being associated with
0. B. Anderws in the grocery business.
Mr, Daniels died in August, 1908 after
having retired from active business.
Three children were born to Mr. and
Mrs. Daniels, two daughters: Mrs. Alice
Merrill, wife of Charles R. Merrill,
Miss Annie Daniels and one son, Manley
Hobart Daniels. The son died November
22, 1908, and the youngest daughter,
Annie Daniels, February 2, 1913,
leaving only one child, Mrs. Charles R.
Merrill, to be her comfort in her declining
years and this she had surely
been.
She is survived also by three sisters,
Mrs.Clara Heberd of this village, widow
of the late Lyman H. Heberd, Mrs.
Alice Skinner, widow of the late Charles
A. Skinner, who has spent much of her
time for the past two years or more
with Mrs. Daniels, and also Mrs. J. N.
Knapp of Syracuse. Mrs. Daniels united
with the Congregational church in 1858
and had been greatly interested in its
prosperity and most helpful and liberal
in her support of it in the many branches
of its work. She had borne her severe
bereavement and affliction with Christian
fortitude and resignation and she
was beloved not only by her family
but by many friends and she will be
missed in many ways outside the family
circle.
The funeral was largely attended, at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Merrill
at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon,
Rev. J. H. Oimstead officiating. Mrs.
C S. Roe and Miss Nellie Young sang
suitable vocal selections. Burial was
made in Glen wood cemetery.
Relatives and friends present at the
funeral from out of town were: Mrs. J.
N. Knapp and Mrs. Floyd Smith of
Syracuse, George and Frank Daniels
and Miss Laura Daniels of Vesper, Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Riehlman of Preble,
Mrs. C. P. Walrad, Miss Anna Walrad,
Mrs. Grove T. Maxson, Dr. and Mrs.
M. M. Lucid of Cortland Mrs. Dayton

MRS. CHARLES A. SKINNER ? Almost Life Long Resident of Homer Passed Away in Syracuse
News was received here this morning of the death of Alice Hobart, widow of Charles A. Skinner. Her death occurred suddenly, early this morning at the home of her son, Hobart Skinner in Syracuse, where she had been spending the winter. F. M. Briggs was called as undertaker. Mrs. Skinner had been in frail Health for several years and has frequently suffered from severe illnesses.
She was the third daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Manley Hobart, and was born on the Hobart homestead farm on the east Little York road, 70 years ago, where she resided until after her marriage in September, 1874, to Charles A. Skinner of this village. Most of her married life was spent in Homer, but some years before her husband's death, some fourteen years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Skinner made their home in Syracuse. Since Mr. Skinner's death she had divided her time between Homer and Syracuse, spending part of her time with her son Hobart Skinner and wife in Syracuse, and with her sister, Mrs. J. N. Knapp, also of Syracuse.
She is survived by one son, Hobart Skinner, and a daughter, Mrs. Floyd Smith, also of Syracuse, and by two sisters, Mrs. Clara Heberd of this village and Mrs. J. N. Knapp of Syracuse.
Mrs. Skinner was a woman of fine Christian character and of many attractive qualities of mind and heart. Her ancestors were among the early pioneers of Homer, of sturdy New England stock. She was beloved by her family and many warm friends, to whom her death will be a severe bereavement. She was a devoted member of the Congregational church of Homer.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made, but the funeral will probably be held in Homer, where most of her life had been spent, the time of which will be announced later.
Alice married Charles Augustus Skinner in 1874. Charles was born on 9 Jun 1848 in Columbus, Franklin Co, Ohio, USA; died on 22 Dec 1906 in Syracuse, Onondaga Co, New York, USA; was buried in Homer, Cortland Co, New York, USA (Glenwood Cemetery). [Group Sheet]
