Caption: Had 107 Points for His Discharge; Go Unused
T/Sgt. George Horr, 28, formally from Waukesha has 107 points to his credit which he could have used to win a discharge from the army but he didn't need any of them, it was revealed here Thursday. Horr was returned to the United States on the rotation plan and after his leave would have been returned to a re-classification center for a new assignment. However, since he would have drawn permanent limited service because of a slight malaria attack, he said, the government "for the convience of the government" discharged him. Horr explained he would have been eligible for discharge when [with] the new point system because he has 107 points. Red Arrow Member - Horr was a member of the famous 32nd Red Arrow division and served 4 ?a years in service of which 33 months were in the South Pacific. He was discharged May 14 at the Fort Sheridan separation center. Horr joined the army on Oct. 15, 1940, when he entered Co. "G" 127th Infantry of The National Guard, which had just been absorbed into the regular army. Holder of the Purple Heart, three battle stars representing the Buna Ataipe and Leyte campaigns, the Philippines liberation ribbon, the pre-Pearl Harbor ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon, the combat infantry badge, and a ribbon representing a division presidential citation for the Buna campaign, Horr said he was glad it was over. Horr, who is married and will make his home at 2938 N. Fratney St. , Milwaukee, is the grandson of Mrs. William Durant, 505 E. St. Paul Ave.. Waukesha. He attended Waukesha high school and worked at the Spring City Foundry prior to entering service. "The Japs are pictured as small men", said Horr, "but among the Japanese imperial marines we ran into at Buna were some mighty big men. They must have been the cream of the lot." Horr urged all people at home to buy war bonds "so we can get our fellows home in a hurry." He commented on the magnificent equipment the Yanks have but said they were short of material during the Buna campaign. A front-line assignment handling 60 mm mortars and light machine guns was his job from the beginning, Horr said.
