    2. "USS Doyen" (Later renamed "The Bay State")
    Originally a Navy troop transport ship. It was taken out of the reserve fleet to serve as a training ship for training Massachusetts Maritime Academy Cadets (aka Mid-Shipman)
    The book "The Attack Transport", written by Larry Marsden, is about the USS Doyen

    3. "USS Independance" (USS=United States Steamship)
    A passenger Ship. John worked as a Merchant Marine (Merchant Marine is not a branch of any US Service) in the engine room. His first job after graduating from MMC.

    4."The Longbeach"
    A guided missile cruiser, as it was being built; Navy ship. John, as a civilian, worked as a nuclear test engineer, at Bethleham Steel, Quincy Massachusetts.

    5. "The Bambridge"
    Destroyer escort, as it was being built; Navy ship. John, as a civilian, worked as a nuclear test engineer, at Bethleham Steel, Quincy Massachusetts. He had "Top Secret Clearance"
