Taunton Militia 1682. Left Taunton about 1698. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1710.
On 21 March 1710/1, "Edward Hoar now of Philadelphia ... son of said Hezekiah Hoar deceased ... constituted my well beloved brother Hezekiah Hoar late of Newport" to be his attorney to carry out the instructions in the deed of Hezekiah Hoar Senior of 27 February 1692/3 [BrLR 8:87]. On 2June 1711, "whereas Hezekiah Hoar Senior of Taunton ... deceased did make deeds of diverse tracts of land unto his two sons Edward Hoar and Hezekiah Hoar bearing date the 27th of February 1692/3 and that the said Hezekiah Hoar Senior did before the confirmation of said deeds give certain instruments of the same date unto the said Edward Hoar that he should make over & confirm by deed unto certain children of said Hezekiah Hoar, namely to his son Natha[nie]l Hoar & to his daughters Sarah, Lidiah, Mary & Rebecca & also to the child of his daughter Elizabeth to each of them the quantity of an hundred acres of land in a tract of land commonly known by the name of Taunton North Purchase ... and whereas John Whipple Senior of Providence in New England & Lidiah Whipple his wife (daughter of said Hezekiah Hoar Senior of said Taunton deceased) have desired and requested that the right they have in said Taunton North Purchase ... should be made over and confirmed unto their son Job Whipple and whereas said Edward Hoar now of Philadelphia in the Province of Pennsylvania hath appointed and constituted me Hezekiah Hoar late of Newport on Rhode Island (now living in Taunton aforesaid) to be his true& lawful attorney ... as by said letter of attorney doth more fully appear which bears date the twenty day of March 1710/1," therefore Hezekiah Hoar deeded to Job Whipple one hundred acres in Taunton North Purchase [BrLR 7:511].7. Marriage is recorded in Taunton VR as 16 Nov 1688.
"John Whipple of Providence & Liddea Hoare was both joyned together in Marriage in ye Massachusetts Province, November ye 9th: 1688 by Captn Leonard, Justice." [Providence]
http://www.whipple.org/charles/johnandjonathan/
The controversy over the birth of his (or his wife's) first son sheds an added degree of clarity as to the effects of John III's behavior on others. Though it is speculative, he could have lived a significant part of his adult life in another colony until at least the mid 1690s. As seen, he was not listed in Providence military records of 1687, and in December of 1688 his wife gave birth to a child in Taunton, Massachusetts. This child was born approximately one month after his marriage to Lydia Hoare, 9 November 1688. "In volume 44 of the American Genealogist appears an article entitled, Job Whipple of Providence, RI, by H. Minot Pitman, FASG of Bronksville, NY. The gist of the story is that Job Whipple was born prior to the marriage of his purported father, John Whipple and his mother, Lydia Hoar. Mr. Pittman says Job was born in Taunton, probably 25 December 1688 ... oddly there is no record in Taunton for the birth of a Job Hoar or Whipple. The vital records of Providence, giving the dates of birth and marriage for Job Whipple were not entered in the book (Vol.1 p.11) until the month of November 1719. The entry was probably made from information given by Job himself to the clerk and reads: 'Job Whipple, the son of John Whipple of Providence' ... The facts are further supported by an indenture of apprenticeship to be found in the rebound volume now known as, 'Third Town Book B,' made between Job Liddeason (Lydia's son) John Whipple, Jr. and Lydia his wife, all of Providence on the one party and John Sayles of Providence ... This shows that at the time Job had not taken the Whipple name. As apprenticeships usually began at about the age of 7 years and lasted until the age of 21 years, Job was probably born 25 December 1688

http://www.whipple.org/charles/johnandjonathan/
As apprenticeships usually began at about the age of 7 years and lasted until the age of 21 years, Job was probably born 25 December 1688.

"In Taunton, the name is "Hoard" but he uses the form "Hoar" in all of his many deeds. The Staples St. cemetery was erected by a reservation in his deed of 1745 of the old homestead as a "burying place for him and his family; and was used as recently as 1854 for the interment of Katherine, wife of his son William. He conveyed his homestead in Middleboro, where he lived, to his son William in 1784; and other property. He may have had other children than those recorded." " ?..Sept. 8th, of the same year (1873), Philip Hor, originally from Taunton (Ma.), but last from Brookfield, Mass., came to examine a lot of land (Lot.5, Range 9.) which he had previously bought, about half a mile west of Joel Plummer's. The next June two of his sons came with him; they spent the summer clearing land. Late in the fall he returned to Brookfield (Ma.), leaving his sons to brave the severity of a long winter, or go to the older settlements. At that time there was considerable lumbering done in the coast towns. June, 1785, he came with his wife, who was from Norton, Mass. They suffered great hardships on the way. Their household goods were brought from Stevens Brook (Bridgton, Maine) on the backs of those who helped them in; for at this time the Scoggin trail, a mere bridle path, was the only road into Waterford.
They were disappointed in a house and provisions, which they had bargained for. So Mr. Hor built a hut of hemlock bark, and this was their only shelter for two years. They had not even a cow. Their nearest neighbors were three miles away, the Hamlins, who lived south of Tom pond. During six weeks of winter this family saw no human beings but themselves and no animal but a dog. When they wanted meal they had either to back the corn twelve miles to Stevens Brook, or go out and get a horse, which occupied a day, take the grist to mill, which occupied another, and the third day return the horse. Mrs. Hor was for some time the only woman in the plantation in full communion with the church." -

Norton T. Horr, in his book "A Record of Descendants of Hezekiah Hoar" (See page 9: https://archive.org/stream/recordofdescenda00horr#page/8/mode/2up ), states that Philip was son of either William or Isaac. It is my opinion that Philip was a son of Isaac.
Regarding Philip Hor/Horr, born 1734, married Hannah Harodon/Harrodon.
I feel that he (Philip) was most probably son of Isaac Hoar and Abigail Staples, and not son of William Hoar and Sarah Macomber. I would be most interested if anyone should ever find info. that would help my case. What I have so far:
Norton T. Horr (author of : A Record of Descendants of Hezekiah Hoar) says:
1. "Sarah Macomber was dau. of William Macomber". I feel, that although William Macomber (and wife, Sarah Holloway) did have a dau. named Sarah, being born 3-13-1709, she would not have been old enough to marry William Hoar in or around 1715.
2. The Macomber genealogy, pg. 91, says Sarah, dau. of John and Hannah (Bobbit/Babbit) Macomber m. William Hoar abt. 1715 and that this Sarah died 1757 as opposed to Norton's date of 1753.
3. As to the children of William Hoar and Sarah Macomber, Norton T. Horr says:
"A careful search of all known records fails to disclose the names of his (William Hoar's) children, except Anna. He [William Hoar] and his brother Isaac were the only ones of the name then in Taunton whose children are not known. There is strong evidence to believe that he had: Jacob, d. 1756, Ruth, Anna who married (Seth) Hodges; and Philip".
4. I think it has become accepted, by now, that Anna (who married Seth Hodges) was dau. of Jonathan Hoar and not William Hoar based on what the Macomber genealogy says on pg. 14: "Sept 8, 1735 Jonathan Hoar petitioned the court to appoint a guardian for his daughter Anna, who was then seven years old and had a claim on the estate of John Macomber through her mother".
5. I feel that Philip Hoar/Hor was a son of Isaac Hoar and Abigail Staples because this family also used surname Hor.
Philip Hoar/Hor m. Hannah Haradon/Harradon.
The Haradon/Harradon family was of Norton, Ma.
Philip Hoar/Hor was of Norton Ma. before moving to Maine.
Charity, dau. of Isaac Hoar and Abigail Staples m. John Harodon/Harrodon who was brother of Hannah Harodon/Harrodon who married Philip Hoar/Hor.
6. At the time of Norton's book he (Norton Horr) apparently did not know Philip's date of birth since it is not included. Philip was born 1734. This date fits better with Isaac Hoar/Hor's children then with m. date of 1715 for William and Sarah (Macomber) Hoar. (Philip would have been born 18/19 yrs. after their marriage...Possible but I think improbable.) Philip and Hannah (Harradon) Hoar/Hor named one son Isaac and named no son William. And since Norton says that William and Isaac Hoar were the only ones whose children were not known...I think it's a pretty good case, so far, for Philip to be son of Isaac Hoar/Hor and not William Hoar.

What could be a more fitting
memorial to one of our most
g e n e r o u ; and visionary pioneers
than our beautiful twin parks
located in t h e center of the
village?! Hezekiah Barker who
bought a great tract of land in
180(5 gave acres of his' holdings,
including that land, for the
benefit and enjoyment of the
s e t t l e r s of Canadaway.
Mr. Barker was about 50
years of cge w h e n he came here
and built his cabin. The following
year he brought his wife,
Sarah Wood, and their eight
children. The Barkers were
T b o th natives of Rhode Island,
he, one of nine children of John
Barker and Rebecca Hoar, was
born at Middletown April 14,
2 757. She was t h e d a u g h t e r of
George and Desire Grey Wood
and was born Dec. 30, 1764.
They were* m a r r i e d Nov. 27,
1783 at Little Compton, R. I.
The Barker children were;
Barzillai, William, Zabiah, Desire,
Sarah, Samuel, John and
Charlc<. Two of the daughters
married men who also had prominent
parts in the early life
of our settlement. Desire married
Leverett Barker (no blood
r e l a t i on to Hezekiah) and S a r ah
m a r r i e d Dr. S q u i r e White, said
to have, been the first licensed
physician in the county. It was
Leverett Barker's son, Darwin,
who gave his family home for
our D. R. B a r k e r Library.
H e z e k i t h Barker had served
in the Revolutionary War. For
ten months he was in Capt.
Wood's Co of Col. Richardson's
Reg. of R.I. troops. He h a d t he
honor of following the a r m y of
Washington a-; t h e d i s p a t c h carrier,
passing through the enemy
lines when necessary and doing
great service. In March 1834' he
was granted a pension, but
lived to receive it but a few
months since his death occurred
J u l y fi, 1834. His widow was
honored with a pension in 1839.
Hezekiah Barker and Zattu
Cushing arrived here about the
same time and they bought the
land which McClintock, Eason
and Meiniger had first purchased
before they moved on to
t h e Cross Roads (Westfield).
Mr. Barker paid $768.13 for his
land which included most o?
that in t h e c e n t e r of our present
village.
He set about with a definite
plan for a future village and a
d e t e r m i n a t i o n to make life as
comfortable as possible for all
of these persons who had left
t h e i r homes and conveniences
HI the East to b r a v e t h e e x p e r i ences
in' t h e wilderness. Following
the picn of most New England
villages he first laid out
the village "green" about which
c h u r c h e s schools and town
buildings were usually grouped.
In the Fall of 1806 Mr. Barker
with the help of Mr. Richard
Williams who had r e c e n t ly
a r r i v e d here, commenced building
a grist mill. A trip to
P e n n s y l v a n i a was made, 80
miles with an ox team, for I lie
mill stones and to Batavia for
the mill irons. The t r ip which
we to-day would make in a few
hours required then 21 days.
The s e ' t i e r s had been obliged
to take their grain either to
Erie, Pa., or to Black Rock to
have it ground. The only alternative
was to pound the g r a in
(in a stump mortar at home, a
very slov; and tedious process.
The thoughts of a grist mill here
in C a n a d a w a y ^ mubrought great joy to many
h e a r t s . But, just as t h e mill was
nearly completed a freshet
swept a\\v,.y the mill dam. The
men, however, with their usual
courageous spirit and with the
help of volunteers rebuilt the
dam.
Hezekiah Barker, also built
the first saw mill, above the
bridge on Main Street. He built
a log t a v e r n where the Russo
building now stands. This he
sold in 1315 to M. W. and
Thomas Abel. He gave the land
for the Academy and that for
our Pioneer cemetery where
many ybars later he was laid
to rest. {The first school house
was erected by him. After selling
his t a v e r n he built for himself
a home where our Post
Office is now located.
During the three years following
Hezekiah Barker's arrival
many families moved into
this area, and on the 4th of
J u l y , 1809 t h e first celebration
was held in Canadaway. Mr.
B a r k e r and Oliver Woodcock
provided for the ' d i n n e r in a
long bower, so that all who
could attend might be s e a t e d at
t h e table.
Upon .i stage which was
erected for the occasion, sat 13
ladies dressed in white with
blue sashes, the . clergy, the
speaker of t h e day, and t h e Revo
l u t i o n a r y veterans. The music
was provided with fife and.
drum. The bill of fare was beef,
baked in stone ovens, light
bread, pumpkin pies, loaf cake
sweetened with maple sugar,
peas, potatoes and s t e w e d gooseberries.
The family pewter
p l a t e s were scoured as bright
as possible and with these
t a b l e Was s^t. .
