Andrew Tracy Hanson, father of Willis T. Hanson, president of the Union National bank of Schenectady, and of James Howard Hanson of this city, died suddenly this morning at his home, No. 891 Union street, Schenectady.
Mr. Hanson partook of breakfast at 7: 30 o'clock, and after the meal started to walk out on a side porch. There he was stricken and died before medical aid could be summoned. Heart trouble was the cause of death.
Today Is the 80th anniversary of Mr. Hanson's birth. He was born at Stowe, Vermont, August 2, 1826. He was descended on his father's side from the noted Hoar family. In his early boyhood days his parents moved to Salem. Mass., where he was educated.
When a young man he went to New York and became forcmnn of a large sash and blind factory. In 1867. owing to falling health, he was obliged to leave New York, and he went to Stockbrldge, Mass., where he lived on a farm. He remained In the Berkshlres five years, and In 1872 he went to Schenectady, where he took charge of a sash and blind factory. In 1875 he entered tho wholesale leather business, and this he continued
until 1888.
In 1855 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Johnson, of Schenectady
who survives him. They had six children, namely: Mrs. Charles T. 8now of Brooklyn, Mrs. Lansing DeForest Gates and Mrs. Kate Barhydt of Schenectady. Willis T. Hanson, president of the Union National bank and head of Dr. Williams' medicine concorn, H. A. Hanson, also of Schenectady, and James Howard Hanson, of the law firm of Nisbet & Hanson, of this city.
Mr. Hanson has been living A retired life, and was a member of the State street Methodist church. The funeral will be hold at the residence Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the RevT F. W. Adams, pastor of the State street Methodist church officiating.
Interment, which will be private, will be In Vale cemetery.Andrew married Anna Johnson in 1855. Mrs. Alice M. Gates, 89, of 819 Union street, wife of the late Lansing
DeFo'rest Gates, died yesterday after a long illness.
Mrs. Gates was the oldest living communicant of the First Methodist church and had been a resident of Schenectady for many years. She was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Anna Johnson Hanson and a sister of the late Willis T. Hanson. She was the eldest of six brothers and slsterj, all of whom she outlived. Mrs. Gates was born in New York city. Sh?C spent her youth in Stockbridge and Great Barrington, Mass.
Mrs. Gates was the mother of Miss Bells Hanson Gates of this city.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends have been invited, will ba held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Baxter's funeral home. Burial will be In the family plot at Vale cemetery.Alice married Lansing Deforest Gates. [Group Sheet]

MRS. COLES C. BARHYDT
Mrs. Kate Hanson Barhydt, widow of Coles C. Barhydt, -lied at her home, 819 Union street, Tuesday after many months Illness. Services were privately conducted yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at her late homo by Rev George Bambach, rector of St. George's
Church. Burial was made in the Vale cemetery.

James Howard Hanson, Amsterdam, New York, attorney at law, was born September 27, 1867, in Great Harrington, Massachusetts, son of Andrew T. Hanson and Anne Johnson, his wife. On the paternal side he is of English descent, a direct descendant of John Shaw, one of the leaders of the Plymouth colony, and of Hezekiah Hoar, an ensign in Miles Standish's company and one of the first settlers of Taunton, Massachusetts. Andrew T. Hanson was a son of Jonathan Hoar Hanson and Priscilla Shaw. On the maternal side Mr. Hanson is of Dutch descent, descended from Rualf Jansen, patentee of Schodack Landing. His mother, Anne .Iohnson, was a daughter of Robert Johnson and Katherine Douw Van Ness. James H. Hanson prepared for college at the Union Classical lnstitute, Scheuectady, in 1889 graduating from Union College with honor, the winner of the Warner prize, the first Allen prize, Blatchford second prize, special Latin prize and taking special honors in English. In 1889 he was editor of "Concordiensis" and associate editor of tlie ''Garnet." He is also a Phi Beta Kappa and an Alpha Delta Phi man. Upon graduation he entered the law office of C. S. Nisbet of Amsterdam as a student, and in September, 1891, he was admitted to practice at the bar of New York state, in Saratoga Springs. In October, 1891, Mr. Hanson formed a partnership for general law practice with his preceptor, C. S. Nisbet, under the firm name of Nisbet & Hanson, and so still continues, actively engaged in practice in all of the counties of central New York state. They are attorneys for the Fonda, Johnstown & Gloversville Railroad Company, the Edison Electric Light & Power Company, the First National Bank of Amsterdam, the water commissioners of that city, and for various other manufacturing firms and corporations. In 1905 Mr. Hanson was desismated by the attorney general as one of his special deputies to prosecute certain public officials in Montgomery county, which resulted in the removal of the clerk and the sheriff of the county by Governor Higgins. Associated with him in this work were E. P. White, a graduate of Union College, class of '79, and L. A. Serviss, class of '74. Mr. Hanson also holds positions of trust outside the field of the law, being a director and secretary of Chalmers' Knitting Company, manufacturers of knitted underwear; director of the E. Watson Gardiner Company, converters of cotton cloths; president of the Montgomery County Historical Society; director of the Amsterdam Free Library, since 1891; treasurer of St. Ann's Church, since 1896; secretary of the Board of Trade of Amsterdam, 1892-1899; a member of the advisory board of the Amsterdam Children's Home, trustee of the Union Association of Alpha Delta Phi. He is also a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Club of New York city, the Sons of the American Revolution, Washington Continental Guard of New York, the Bibliophile Society of Boston, the Association for the Preservation of the Adirondacks, the American Academy of Political and Social Science, Montgomery County Historical Society, the New York State Bar association and of various clubs and social organizations of his city. In politics he is an independent Republican, but has taken no special interest in that field, never having held nor sought public office. Mr. Hanson is the author of the introduction to "The Minute Book of the Committee of Safety of Tryon County," which book was published by Dodd, Mead & Company in 1905. Marvin T. Hanson, formerly of' 1529 Union street, died yesterday at a hospital at Hawthorne, NJ. where he had been a patient for a week.
THE SON OF THE LATE Herbert A. and Mary French Hanson, he was born in this city and graduated from Nott Terrace high and I Union College. Following his graduation in June, 1930. from college.he left the city for employment with a chemical concern in New Jersey and was office manager at the time of his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Hawthorne.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 i m. at the Robert Browning funeral home at Hawthorne, NJ, and burial will be in that city.
