      WILLARD7 CHANDLER ( Willard* Benjamin,5 William,* William,3 Thomas* William1} and Betsey Hoar, Chester, Vt.
      She was b. 27 March, 1805 ; dan. of Joseph Hoar, who died in Chester, 21 Feb. 1852, aged 84, by his wife Sophia Bigelow, who d. 11 June, 1850, aged 77 ; granddau. of Joseph Hoar, of Littleton, Mass., by his wife Mary Farwell.
      He was a farmer on the Side Hills, and died 8 Sept. 1869, aged 73.
      The children of Willard and Betsey (Hoar) Chandler were :
      1. Harlan Willard, b. in Chester, 15 Feb. 1841. He
      entered the U. S. service, 1 Sept. 1862, in Co. E, 16th Reg't Vt. for nine months, and again 10 Aug. 1864. for one year in Co. F, llth Reg't, from Chester, aged ' 23." He was in the battle of Gettysburg and at Cedar Creek fight, and under fire, 25 March, 1864, near Petersburg, Va. ; and on 2d April, 1865, when Grant broke Lee's lines and made him surrender. Fanner in Chester; m. Dec. 1867, Adeline Cook, widow of Edward Howard, who was 36 years old when married second. She was b. in Irasburg, Vt, dau. of Jonathan and Betsey Cook.
      2. Julia Elizabeth, b. 12 Sept. 1842; m. 18 May, 1870, Dexter Bailey, b. 8 Jan. 1831, son of Samuel Bailey; farmer in Chester. He was a widower with two children - Herbert and Fred. Bailey. He died 24 Aug. 1879.
      3. Daniel Bigelow, b. in Chester, 14 May, 1844. He enlisted in Co. F, 11 Reg't, from Chester, and left home 30 Aug. 1864, for one year. He was in Cedar Creek fight, under fire 25 March, 1865, near Petersburg, and at Lee's surrender. He was slightly wounded in the abdomen ; served in the 2d Brigade, 6th Corps and 2d Division ; was mustered out 24 June, 1865 ; m. Sept. 1874, Hattie M. Sherwin, of Grafton, Vt. Farmer in Chester, Vt.
      4. Joseph Rollin, b. 13 July, 1846 ; farming on homestead.
