      Deceased Name: RUTH EILEEN SHORT
      Ruth Eileen Short, of Raytown, MO, born July 12, 1924, in Miller, MO, to Lee A. and Bessie M. Hoar, and died March 1, 2003.
      She was married to Ralph Dean Short in 1945. She is survived by a son, Larry D. Short of Independence, MO, a daughter, Carol Ann Sledge and husband Robert B. Sledge II, grandsons, Robert G. Sledge III, and Lee Robert Sledge, all of Dayton, OH.
      Ruth graduated from Southwest Baptist University and later received her B.S. degree in elementary education and master's in elementary administration from Central Missouri State University. She taught in the Raytown Missouri School District for 30 years prior to retiring.
      She was active in the Raytown Community Teachers Association and received their Outstanding Service Award in 1987.
      Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raytown since 1954, where she served on the Stewardship Committee, taught Sunday School and most recently served as the Church Historian.
      Ruth was a member of the Raytown Retired Teachers Association, Alpha Rho Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Marguarite McNair Chapter of DAR.
      She received the Life Service Award from Southwest Baptist University for outstanding service to the University.
      Since retirement, she enjoyed worldwide travel with her many friends. In 1991, she traveled to China for eight weeks and taught conversational English at the University in Nanning, China. She also enjoyed spending many hours in researching and writing a family history.
      Services will be held 7 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2003, at Missouri Funeral Care, Raytown, MO. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held 12 noon Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Sycamore Cemetery, Miller, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Building Fund at the First Baptist Church of Raytown and the Raytown Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund, Kansas City Hospice or a charity of your choice.
