      Deceased Name: GRISWOLD, H. NEWTON, JR.
      GRISWOLD, H. Newton, Jr.
      H. Newton Griswold, Jr. 78, of Wethersfield, husband of Marcia (Hoar) Griswold, died Monday (November 14, 2005). Born in Wethersfield he was the son of the late Harry N. and Edith (Hubby) Griswold and was a lifelong resident. Prior to his retirement he was a builder and real estate developer in Wethersfield and the surrounding towns and then in retirement was a farmer and market gardener who was famous for his horseradish. He was a member of the Class of 1945 of Wethersfield High School and attended Hillyer College. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of First Church, Wethersfield for 63 years and was a member of the Griswoldville Chapel. He was a longtime member and former Captain of Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Dept. Co. 2, a member of the Wethersfield Firefighters Assoc. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Gary N. Griswold and Sue of Marlborough and children, Melissa, Alyson, Bonnie and Lance Corporal Thomas Griswold, USMC, a son, Randy A. Griswold and his wife, Cynthia Lynn of East Hampton and children, Matthew, Jack, Keith and Charles; Senior Airman Cory Griswold, USAF, and his wife, Tina and their daughter, Ashlyn; his daughter, Betsey Broomall and her husband, Bob of Southington and their children, Laura and William; his brother, James S. Griswold of Wethersfield; and sister, Mary Brownsword of Niantic. A memorial service will be held on Friday November 18th at 11 a.m. in First Church of Christ, 250 Main St. Wethersfield with the Rev. Dr. J. Jey Deifell, Jr. officiating. Burial will full military honors will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Griswoldville Chapel, C/O Henry Covey, 41 Dorlen Circle Wethersfield 06109, First Church of Christ, Wethersfield or a charity of the donor's choice. The James T. Pratt Funeral Service, Wethersfield is entrusted with the arrangements.
