DES MOINES ? Helen Louise Hoar, 87, known as Louise to family and friends, passed away on June 30, 2011, at the Carlisle Care Center in Carlisle.
Louise was born in Oskaloosa on Oct. 26, 1923, and graduated from the local high school. She was united in marriage to Robert John Hoar shortly before he left for World War II. After he returned, they resided in Oskaloosa for many years. Robert passed away and Louise continued to be a nurse at the Mahaska County Hospital for 45 years. She also was the nurse in the school system for many years before retiring and moving to Tucson, Ariz. Louise moved back to Iowa to be near her son, Jim, in 2006. Louise loved to play bridge and was always very active. She enjoyed golf, took up tennis when she was 70 and began line dancing at 80.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, and a sister, Maxine. Her memory is cherished by two sons: Dave in Turlock, Calif., and Jim, of Windsor Heights, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter. Memorials may be directed to the "First Tee Foundation" found at www.TheFirstTee.org. Arrangements by The Cremation Society of Iowa.
