      Deceased Name: CHESTER R. 'CHET' MILLER, 71
      Chester R. "Chet" Miller, 71, of Powsland Street died May 23, 2000, at a local hospital after a brief illness.
      He was born here, a son of Chester E. and Addiebell Hughes Miller, and attended Portland schools.
      During World War II, Mr. Miller served in the Navy.
      He was employed for many years with Portland's Parks and Recreation Department, retiring in 1992.
      Mr. Miller was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles.
      He enjoyed scenic tours by train and boat. He also enjoyed weekend trips with his family and friends.
      A son, Brian R., died in 1990.
      Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Virginia Hodgkin Miller of Portland; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Doreen) Hill of Port Arthur, Texas; a son, Chuck of Portland; three sisters, Irene Horr, Hester Dingley and Dorothy Davis, all of Portland; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
      There will be no visiting hours. A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Burial will be private.
