      OSKALOOSA ? Jean G. McIntosh, 92, of Altoona, and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Mercy Hospice House in Johnston.

      She was born April 30, 1916, at Oskaloosa, the daughter of John A. and Nell Bennett Hoar. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1934. She worked in the office at the old The Leader, then Grahams Department Store in Oskaloosa as payroll clerk for many years. Later, she worked in payroll at Clow Corp in Oskaloosa for many years before retiring. In retirement, she moved to Tucson, Ariz., and lived there many years, and moved to Altoona in 2002. She was a member of the Oskaloosa First Christian Church; King's Daughters; and had volunteered at the snack bar at Mahaska County Hospital; Mahaska County Chapter of the American Red Cross; and helped at the Ecumenical Food Cupboard, and with getting new clothing for school age children.

      Her family includes a daughter and her husband, Conchita and Mike Johnson, of Ankeny; three grandchildren: Lori (Jeff) Carson, Kurt (Michelle) Johnson and Holly (Todd) Narber; seven great-grandchildren; her sister with whom she lived, Merridy Patrick, of Altoona; and another sister, Barbara "Peggy" White, in Oklahoma; and a sister-in-law: Louise Hoar, of Tucson, Ariz.

      She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Marjorie and Cathryn; and four brothers: Carl, Bob, John and Fred Hoar.

      As was her wish, her body has been cremated and a Graveside Memorial Service will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. in the Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa with the Rev. Michael Omundson officiating. No other visitation is planned.

      Memorials may be made to Oskaloosa First Christian Church or to Mercy Hospice House in Johnston. Arrangements are by the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa.
