Buchalla, 50, of 121 LaFayette Road, Syracuse, died Sunday at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Buchalla was born in Fulton, grew up in Verona, and moved to Syracuse about 30 years ago. She was a caseworker with the Onondaga County Department of Social Services. Before that, she was with the Rudolph Jewelry Store and the city of Syracuse Consumer Affairs Office. Buchalla was an editor for the Onondaga County Communicator and the Nob Hill weekly newsletter. She was a member of the Unity Church of Truth and the O.X.O. sorority. Surviving are her husband, Wallace; two sons, Chris Demperio of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Jeff Demperio of Jamesville; her mother, Elizabeth Horr of Jamesville; two brothers, Dannel of Homer and Shawn Horr of LaFayette; a sister, Tammy Horr of Liverpool; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ballweg and Lunsford Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in the Unity Church of Truth. Burial will be in Verona Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 4612 S. Salina St. Contributions may be made to the Humane Association.
