      Deceased Name: Eugene P. Leonard
      Eugene P Leonard, 71, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital. He was a firefighter for 10 years at Westover Air Force Base (now Air Reserve Base) in Chicopee Falls. Born in this city, he was a graduate of Cathedral High School and a World War II veteran of the Merchant Marine. He leaves a son, Brian of Boston; a daughter, Tricia Mastroianni of Marstons Mills; three sisters, Marion E. Sheremeta and Kathleen L. Hoar, both of Springfield, and Margaret Soennichsen of Enid, Okla.; and six grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday morning at Sampson's Liberty Street Funeral Home and Our Lady of Hope Church, with burial at St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to the church at 577 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.

      SPRINGFIELD - Marion E. "Sis" (Leonard) Sheremeta, 85, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died early Thursday morning at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. She was born and educated in Springfield, the daughter of the late James F. and Catherine A. (Cullen) Leonard, and was a graduate of Technical High School. Marion retired after more than twenty years as a teacher's aid from the City of Springfield School Department. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Church Springfield, and a Past President of the American Legion Post 430 Women's Auxiliary. Marion was the devoted wife of 63 years to retired Springfield Fire Department Captain Philip P. Sheremeta. She was the loving mother of Carol A. Dernavich, James P. Sheremeta, and Doreen M. Turgeon, all of Springfield. Marion also leaves one sister, Kathleen "Babe" Hoar of Springfield; and was adored by her five grandchildren, Matthew J., Kathryn E., and Brenna A. Turgeon, Darrell A., and Lauren B. Dernavich. Marion also leaves several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was the sister of the late Peggy Soenechsinn, James Leonard and Gene Leonard. Marion will be sadly missed by her loving family and greatly remembered for her gentle touch and kind ways. Her funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 am from Sampson's Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Rd., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Holy Cross Church, both in Springfield, with Rites of Committal to Conclude at 1:00 pm at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
