      WEYMOUTH - John S. McDonough, 72, a retired Boston Gas Co. serviceman, died Saturday at home.
      Mr. McDonough, a Navy veteran, worked for Boston Gas for 30 years before retiring in 1988. During those years, he also worked evenings for the U.S. Postal Service at South Postal Annex.
      He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America Local 12003, District 14.
      He enjoyed playing golf.
      Mr. McDonough was born and educated in Boston. He lived in Braintree from 1963 to 1988, then lived in Springville, Fla., before moving to Weymouth six years ago.
      Mr. McDonough is survived by his wife, Loretta M. (Hoar) McDonough; two sons, Kerry M. McDonough of Brockton and Michael S. McDonough of Holbrook; five daughters, Diane M. Conley of South Weymouth, Debra J. Williams of Quincy, Maureen E. Robinson of Springville, Fla., Loretta A. Tripp of Laconia, N.H., and Janice M. Prutch of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Margaret Doyle of Taunton; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandaughters.
      He was the father of the late John G. McDonough and David J. McDonough.
      A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Church, South Weymouth. Burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
      Visiting is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, 809 Main St. (Route 18).
