DEATH OF MRS. STEPHEN SAWYER
AGAIN HAS MESSENGER OF DEATH COME AMONG US AND TAKEN AWAY ANOTHER FROM THE NUMBER OF THE OLD SETTLERS OF THIS VICINITY. THIS TIME IT IS MRS. STEPHEN SAWYER, WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE AT AN EARLY HOUR ON MONDAY LAST AGED 61 YEARS 7 MONTHS 10 DAYS. IT WAS KNOWN THAT SHE HAD BEEN QUITE
ILL FOR A FEW WEEKS PAST, BUT GENERALLY SUPPOSED THAT HER CASE WAS IN ANY WAY DANGEROUS, THEREFORE THE SAD INTELLIGENCE TOOK MANY BY SURPRISE. DECEASED WAS BORN IN NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, APRIL 12TH, 1818 AND HER MAIDEN NAME WAS JANE K. RICHEY. SHE MOVED TO THIS VICINITY IN 1834 AND FEB. 2, 1837, WAS MARRIED TO MR. JAMES TICE, WHO DIED JANUARY 23, 1841.
JANUARY 12, 1850, SHE WAS MARRIED TO MR. STEPHEN SAWYER, THE CEREMONY BEING PERFORMED AT NORWALK, IN THIS COUNTY. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF LYME CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, LIVED A CHRISTIAN LIFE FOR MANY YEARS AND WAS MUCH
RESPECTED BY ALL WHO KNEW HER. DECEASED LEAVES ONE CHILD BY HER FIRST HUSBAND AND FOUR BY THE LATTER, TO MOURN HER LOSS.
THE FUNERAL TAKES PLACE TODAY AT 1 P. M. FROM THE HOUSE, AND ALSO LATER FROM THE CHURCH.

Surname (spelling) used in England was Lansdell.
and...
Dorothy (Lansdale/Lansdell) Sawyer may not have been born in Ninfield, we do know she was baptized in Bexhill (only a few miles from Ninfield)..... when I went to England, I found according to land records, Dorothy's father is recorded as living in Ninfield when Dorothy was a young adult and earlier in Bexhill. Stephen Sawyer's family had moved to Hooe, a couple miles from Ninfield, when Stephen was a teen.
