    Deceased Name: Robert H. Howey
    Robert H. Howey, 87, of Sycamore died Monday, February 18, 2002 at his home.
    He was born January 11, 1915 at Tuscola, IL. He married Mavis Jameson on June 8, 1940 in Freedom Township.
    He was an educator for 41 years before retiring in 1978. He received his Bachelor and Master Degrees from the University of Illinois and a degree in Guidance from Northern Illinois University.
    He was a member of Alpha Tau Alpha, Gamma Sigma Delta and Phi Beta Kappa.
    He taught vocational agriculture for 30 years, 16 at Newark and 14 at Sycamore.
    He was the Director of Student Services for the Sycamore School System for 11 years.
    He served as President of the Kendall County Teachers, the Sycamore Education Association, Illinois Vo-Ag Teachers, the Illinois Vocational Association.
    He served 11 years on the National Vo-Ag Teachers Executive Committee as Regional Vice-President, National President and Treasurer.
    He was a Director of the Farm Division of the National Safety Council and was a charter member of the National Farm-City Week Committee.
    He also served as a Director of the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce and was appointed by the Governor for a 3 year term on the State Vocational Advisory Committee.
    He has been a member of the Farm Bureau since 1937. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he served 4 terms on the Church Council and was a long time Sunday School teacher, usher and head usher.
    His hobby was landscaping and gardening and enjoyed helping his church and friends maintain their trees and shrubs.
    He continued this hobby the last several years as President and his Condo Association.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis on October 14, 1998; his parents; four brothers; four sisters and two grandchildren.
    He is survived by two sons, Gregory (Barbara) of New Britain, CT and Robert J. (Mandy) of Mequon, WI; five grandchildren, Jason (Terese) of Madison, CT, Jonathon (Linda) of Guilford, CT and Danika (Scott) Trautman of Westport, CT, Cameron and Eli of Mequon, WI; two sisters, Alice Horr of Riverside, CA and Patricia Buian of Tuscon, AZ and a brother in-law, Goron (Ruth) Jameson of Earlville, IL and three great grandchildren.
    The funeral will be held on Friday, February 22, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Salem Lutheran Church with Rev. Garry Briesacher officiating.
    Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Butala Funeral Home.
    A memorial has been established for the Salem Lutheran Church or the DeKalb County Hospice in care of the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory. 1405 DeKalb Ave. Sycamore, IL 60178. For info 815-895-2833.
