    VAN PATTEN FAMILY
Held an Annual Reunion at Preble, on Wednesday.
    The eighteenth annual picnic, and
    reunion of the Van P a t t e n family,
descendants of Ryer and Mary Spencer
Van Patten, was held on Wednesday,
Aug. 25th at the home of William Van
    P a t t e n in Preble. Of the original
family of nine children two survive,
Mrs. Seth Hobart of Preble, who attended
the reunion and James Van Patten,
who resides in St. Charles. 111., whose
letter of regret at not being able to
    be present, was read.
Nearly 100 relatives were seated at
the tables which were ladened with all
sorts of good things, at the noon hour,
and everyone did ample justice to the
repast. The variety of edibles was
satisfactory proof that many of their
number excelled in the culinary art.
After the serving of the menu, the
    present officers were without exception
re-elected and are as follows: President?
    Andrew Van Patten of Preble.
Vice President? Mrs. B. A. Gay of
    Chittenango. Secretary and Treasurer
    ? L. P. Norton of Homer. Historian?
Dr. H. D. Hunt of Preble. Relatives
    were present from Syracuse, Euclid,
Tully, Preble and Homer, who derived
much pleasure from meeting each other
face to face and becoming better acquainted
    or renewing old acquaintance.
The gathering this year was one of the
largest ever held and came fully up to
the standard of excellence already attained,
    and proved most enjoyable in
    every respect.
The annual picnic and reunion will
be held with Dr. H. D. Hunt and Mrs.
Seth Hobart in Preble the last Thurs-
    day in August, 1910.

All through the morning hours those

the Van Patten family arrived one
after another until the noon hour
when tables had been arranged in the
    parlors of the Methodist Episcopal
church and covers were laid for the
    Bfty who were present.
    According to their annual custom
the ladies had prepared a bountiful
supply of good things for the picnic
dinner and all did their part in dispos-
ing of the excellent assortment of
eatables with which the tables were
    well filled.
After all had been well helped the
    company retired to Mrs. Hobart's
home, and a business meeting was
called and officers to serve the com-
